Overview of the Role & Team

The Field Placement Specialist reports to the Program Director, Community Studies.

This is an onsite, full-time position, based in Toronto.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Establish relationships/partnerships with agencies to create field placement opportunities for students in the Community Studies Programs (Addictions and Mental Health, Gerontology, Developmental Services Worker, and Early Childhood Education)
- Support students through the placement clearance process and work with Synergy (third party clearance agency)
- Meet and match students with field placement opportunities, monitor resumes, provide interview preparation, and offer support during hiring process
- Contact agencies prior to placement approval to ensure positions are related to studies and that students have a training and support system in place
- Monitor student welfare issues or injuries while on placement, and support with WSIB or insurance claims, and record information on internal database and provide updates or escalate to the Program Director
- Liaise with fellow Field Placement Specialists and Field Supervisors to discuss placement matters, employer needs, match students to advertised roles, and share performance feedback of students
- Assess student performance either in person or remotely during placement through midterm reviews with students, agencies, and Field Supervisors and gather feedback from agencies after completion of placements
- Mediate between agency(s) and student(s) if a conflict arises and find a suitable solution for all parties
- Provide updates to the Program Director on any student hardship matters or performance issues that require escalating
- Support other College departments with placement prep courses, assignment marking, resume reviewing, orientation events, placement workshops, awards events, drop-in events, job fairs, and speed interview sessions, etc.
- Maintain a detailed record of student, employer/business, community organization interactions, and ensure students complete feedback surveys after attending workshops or individual meetings
- Write content for the department marketing materials, Field Placement Moodle course, and the Field Placement section of the website, and ensure information is up to date
- Provide regular updates to Director and Quality Assurance to ensure Ministry guidelines and service agreement guidelines are followed, discuss required policy changes, share industry updates etc.
- Ensure department policies are followed and that deadlines and expectations are met
- Liaise with internal departments (Student Services, Faculty, Academics, Marketing, Admissions/Recruitment) as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director and ad-hoc basis

**Requirements**:

- A post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree in Community Studies, Health Sciences, or Early Childhood Education (ECE), with a record of professional accomplishment in community/health studies or ECE, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2-3 years in field placement coordination or supervision
- 2-3 years of administrative experience in an academic environment
- Excellent networking skills
- Excellent communication, organizational facilitation, presentation, and public speaking skills
- Sales, cold-calling, and negotiating experience
- Experience in developing marketing and outreach strategies
- Understanding of labor market information and trends
- Experience in assessing employer and client needs to make an effective match
- Knowledge or experience of working with diverse job seekers (ie. International students)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Learning Management Systems, Zoom, etc.
