**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director or their designate the Associate Director, and under the day-to-day supervision of the School Administrator, the Undergraduate Program Advisor organizes, advises and performs the necessary administrative duties required for all the undergraduate students in the Bachelor of Computer Science programs including the minor and the Industrial Applications Internship Option/Dev Degree. The incumbent advises students on required courses for their chosen program, advises transfer students with complex program adjustments, assists Special Students and other degree program students wanting to take undergraduate Computer Science courses, monitors and processes registration requests, determines students’ eligibility for yearly Departmental awards, audits and prepares the graduation summaries, provides liaison with the Registrar’s Office, Admissions, Awards, Co-op officers, other Schools and Faculties, and maintains the School’s undergraduate student files. The Undergraduate Program Advisor provides information to high school counsellors and students and is the liaison person between the School and the Carleton Computer Science Society. The incumbent compiles data as required to be submitted to the Director as requested, is a member of the Curriculum Committee, assists with building of the Computer Science course timetable in DCU and Banner, submits undergraduate calendar changes in Courseleaf and undertakes any other projects as assigned by the Director of the School.

**Qualifications**:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

- This position requires an extensive knowledge of undergraduate programs preferably in Computer Science. The incumbent is an important source of information to the Director and Associate Director, students, faculty members and the general public.
- The incumbent must acquire an excellent knowledge of regulations throughout the University; an excellent understanding of procedures governing the processing of student records; and an excellent knowledge of the overall procedures and precedents involved in academic decision making.
- Reliability and accuracy are extremely important, along with confidentiality.
- The incumbent plays a role in representing the School of Computer Science to prospective students, their parents, and school officials.
- This requires strong interpersonal, effective listening, presentation, and communication skills, both written and oral.
- The incumbent must also be capable of relating successfully to all members of the University community (staff, faculty, and students).
- A knowledge of campus life is necessary.
- The position requires a sensitivity to, and an understanding of various cultural, ethnic, and linguistic profiles, as well as recognizing students in distress.
- Good judgment, discretion and tact are essential.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to organize work effectively, and to simultaneously work on several assignments with pressures of multiple demands and changing priorities.
- The Ability to multi-task with competing deadlines and frequent interruptions.
- Creative problem-solving skills are important.
- Personal initiative and flexibility are essential.
- Ability to perform as an effective team member is vital.
- Previous experience in program advising is an asset.

**Education and Experience**:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

- University degree
- Four years of administrative experience in a post-secondary setting
