Accounting Assistant

**Summary of Position**
The Accountant assists the Controller by performing a variety of accounting duties including preparing,
entering, maintaining, analyzing, verifying, and reconciling financial transactions, statements, records,
and reports. This position is also responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the company’s sub
ledgers and general ledgers by adhering to GAAP standards.
**Qualifications and Requirements**
- 5+ years progressively responsible experience in accounting
- Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Strong analytical and accounting skills
- Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook
- Good communication, organizational and computer skills
- Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment
- High attention to detail and level of accuracy is needed
- Above average problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with high degree of difficulty
- The individual will be expected to work with mínimal up-front guidance and take ownership of his/her product
**Duties and Responsibilities**
Performing a variety of accounting duties such as:
- Processing AP invoices and related documentation
- Reconciling and balancing cheque payments and accounts to the General Ledger
- Following up with suppliers to resolve discrepancies
- Verifying balances and reconciliation of bank accounts
- Deposits cash and cheques to bank accounts
- Discusses and resolves account discrepancies with bank staff
- Processing AR invoices and related documentation
- Reconciling customer payments and accounts to the General Ledger
- Following up on overdue invoices
- Assist with analyzing statements of earnings for employees, indicating gross and net salaries/wages and deductions such as taxes, group insurance and RRSP contributions
- Purchasing office supplies
- Staying up-to-date and in compliance with all statutory requirements
- Analyzing accruals
- Assistance with purchasing and inventory control
- Assist with creating and analyze various Management reports
- Assistance with the annual external audit
- Assistance with preparing yearly budget
- Record and analyze fixed assets
- Preparation of cash flow projections and other financial reports and summaries
- Assist with the creation and analyzation of financial statements
- Perform back-up for Controller in their absence
- Other duties as required, as per Management’s instruction
