It has an international reputation for excellence in both teaching and research. The cornerstone of the Department’s educational focus is its Graduate Program. Its graduates are employed in universities throughout the world as well as in top government departments, international organizations, public and private firms. The Department offers a variety of Undergraduate Programs with many of its graduates going on to become leading economists working in the public and private sector. **Responsibilities**: The Human Resources Assistant (Chair and Committee Coordinator) is responsible for providing administrative support to the Chair, the Department Manager, the Appointments Committee, the Promotion and Tenure Committee, and the Workload Committee. The Human Resources Assistant is responsible for assisting with the implementation of human resources functions related to Faculty Appointments, Promotion and Tenure Committee, and the Workload Committee. The incumbent will act as a first point of contact, and provide information related to these human resources activities in compliance with Western policies, procedures, collective agreements and government legislation. The Human Resources Assistant also provides administrative support to faculty and statistical information on Departmental publications for citations and reports. The Human Resources Assistant will compile and maintain confidential information in accordance with departmental and Human Resources policies and procedures. **Qualifications**: **Education**: - 3 year Community College Diploma in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field - Undergraduate degree preferred **Experience**: - 3 years’ experience providing administrative support and customer service in an academic environment - Experience reconciling financial accounts, completing journal entries, processing on-line travel expense claims, preparing on-line purchase orders and invoices and preparing financial reports is preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Familiarity with Human Resources principles and practices - Communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with all levels of the organization - Verbal and written communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for action - Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards - Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner - Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy - Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, WORD, Excel, PowerPoint) and editing programs including Adobe PRO, Convio, Cascade, Qualtrics, Google Docs preferred - Knowledge of University policies and Department practices preferred - Knowledge of general office procedures including strategies for records management - Willingness and ability to stay abreast of technological developments - Attention to detail, proof-reading skills; ability to process information with a high degree of accuracy - Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment - Ability to function in a team as well as being independent, showing both resourcefulness and initiative and ability to work independently with little supervision - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to growth and change - Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to research/investigate issues and resolve problems - Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work - Adapts readily and effectively to changing priorities and demands - Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner - Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals **Union Statement**: **Western Values Diversity**: **Please Note**: We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those chosen for an interview will be contacted.
