Animal Care Worker

Job responsibilities:
8 week placement, 35 hours per week.
Reporting to the Shelter Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining effective animal care protocol and procedures. Essential functions include:
Feeding, bathing, grooming, exercising and care of animals
Administering medical treatments under the supervision and direction of the Shelter Manager, Registered Veterinary Technician, and/or Staff Veterinarian
Daily cleaning of animal housing areas
Assisting with enrichment of animals
Performing daily evaluations of animals
Cleaning of various areas of shelter facility
Ensuring that proper husbandry requirements of each animal are being met
Other duties as required for day to day operations
Qualifications:
Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment as per the Canada Summer Jobs Program
Animal care experience and knowledge is an asset
Must be able to perform manual labour and lift 50lbs
Knowledge of disease transmission an asset
Must be comfortable working with and handling animals
Strong attention to detail and ability to adapt to a changing environment is an asset
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and use strong organizational and time management skills
Valid Ontario Glass G Driver’s license, clean driving record required
Employees will be required to work day and/or night shifts, must be reliable and able to work weekends
**Job Types**: Part-time, Temporary
**Salary**: $17.80 per hour
