Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:
- extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment
- demonstrated competence in teaching Art and Career Life Education at the Secondary School level
- demonstrated ability to teach a variety of art methods including sketching, painting, graphics, digital photography, computer graphics, and sculpture
- demonstrated willingness to explore and implement concepts from the new curriculum including awareness of and experience working with the First Peoples Principles of Learning
- demonstrated experience in and knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of learning abilities and implementing strategies for adapting curriculum
- demonstrated ability to devise and use a variety of assessment processes, including competency based assessments, that effectively allow students to demonstrate their learning
- commitment to creating opportunities for students to display their artwork (e.g. school, community, school board office, art shows, community events, etc.)
- commitment to liaising with the Sardis ‘family of schools’ to promote vertical integration and alignment
- demonstrated ability to consistently incorporate a wide range of effective classroom management strategies that maintain the dignity of students with an emphasis on a proactive approach
- an exemplary work ethic with proven ability to work as an effective team member
- demonstrated sensitivity, awareness and understanding of adolescent development and enthusiasm for developing positive relationships with adolescents
- proven ability as a curricular leader including exemplary organizational and time management skills, creative problem-solving skills, effective team building skills and strong communication skills
- demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills
- demonstrated commitment to the use of technology to enhance and leverage effective instructional practice and track student learning
- demonstrated commitment to use technology as part of a larger initiative to communicate consistently and effectively with parents and students
