Squamish Nation consists of 23 villages and is comprised of descendants of the Coast Salish Aboriginal people who live in the present-day Greater Vancouver area, Gibson’s Landing, and Squamish River watershed. The Squamish Nation has occupied and governed the territory since beyond recorded history. The Squamish Nation's culture is rich and resilient. We continue to practice our customs and traditions, which are strongly interconnected with our traditional territory. Together with our lands, our customs and traditions are the foundations of who we are as Skwxwú7mesh.

As an organization, we provide support to the greater Squamish Nation Community through service. With 11 departments with individual areas of expertise, we ensure Squanish People have access to necessary programs and services.

**About The Opportunity**:
Working as an integral part of the Ta na wa Chen̓tm - the Chair and Council Office Department, this position reports directly to the Chief of Staff, The Public Relations Manager serves as a vital public relations strategist for the Squamish Nation’s Chair and Council, ensuring that all communications, events, and projects are aligned with both the Nation's cultural protocols and public relations goals. This role not only safeguards the cultural integrity of the Nation but also crafts and manages the messaging of the Chair and Council, guiding how key messages are disseminated to the community, public, and media. Key responsibilities include reviewing and advising on Chair & Council projects to ensure they adhere to established policy, while also shaping narratives to enhance understanding. The Manager provides public relations insights for special events, reports, and strategic communications, ensuring that these activities reflect both the values of the Nation and its reputation. This individual is a key driver in fostering and maintaining strong relationships with departments, Squamish Nation entities, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, media outlets, and external organizations. They also mentor younger members of the Nation, helping them understand modern public relations strategies. Additionally, the Manager collaborates closely with internal teams to ensure perspectives are woven into all project developments and serves as a primary liaison in coordinating government relations and strategic public relations efforts, positioning the Squamish Nation effectively in external communications.

- Professional, adaptable, and confident communication style with strong interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with legislative requirements relevant to the Nation’s interests.
- Strong Cultural Knowledge: A strong understanding of Squamish Nation cultural protocols, values, and traditions, with the ability to integrate this knowledge into public-facing projects and communications.
- Strong Public Relations Experience: Proven experience in managing public relations campaigns, media relations, and crafting messaging strategies that effectively represent the organization to the public and key stakeholders.
- Diplomatic and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to foster positive relationships with government officials, media representatives, community members, and external organizations.
- Strategic Communication Skills: Ability to develop and execute strategic communication plans that highlight and elevate the Squamish Nation's profile while ensuring alignment with cultural values and protocols.
- Stakeholder Management: Skilled in managing diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, external partners, media, and community members, while advocating for the interests of the Nation.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Experience mentoring younger members of the Nation and the ability to guide teams in integrating cultural perspectives into their work.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to analyze projects, events, and communications for cultural sensitivity and public impact, ensuring adherence to both traditional protocols and modern PR strategies.
- Event Management Experience: Experience in organizing, advising on, or managing culturally significant events and high-profile public engagements.
- Media Savvy: An understanding of modern media landscapes, including digital and social media, and experience with managing the public image of high-profile individuals or organizations.

**Salary**:$ 86,776 - $ 99,335 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits program.
