Squamish Nation consists of 23 villages and is comprised of descendants of the Coast Salish Aboriginal people who live in the present-day Greater Vancouver area, Gibson’s Landing, and Squamish River watershed. The Squamish Nation has occupied and governed the territory since beyond recorded history. The Squamish Nation's culture is rich and resilient. We continue to practice our customs and traditions, which are strongly interconnected with our traditional territory. Together with our lands, our customs and traditions are the foundations of who we are as Skwxwú7mesh.
As an organization, we provide support to the greater Squamish Nation Community through service. With 12 departments with individual areas of expertise, we ensure Community Members have access to necessary programs and services.
**About The Opportunity**:
Working as an integral part of the Ta na wa Chen̓tm - Chair and Council Office Department, reporting directly to the Chief of Staff, the Protocol & Public Relations Manager acts as the Squamish Nation’s Chair & Councils cultural liaison, representing the cultural identity and integrity of Squamish Nation protocols. They will review, analyze, manage compliance and provide cultural insights and recommendations for all special projects, plans and events related to Chair and Council direction. This person has a comprehensive understanding of the Squamish language, culture and history paired excellent relationship building experience. They understand the importance of adherence to the Squamish Nation’s protocols and public relation matters to the success of Chair and Council mandate and maintain a balanced perspective between cultural needs and strategic public relation initiatives during their assessments and recommendations. The Protocol & Public Relations Manager serves as the cultural liaison for the Squamish Nation's Chair & Council, ensuring the representation and integrity of Squamish Nation protocols. This role requires a deep understanding of Squamish language, culture, traditional laws, structure, and processes. The incumbent provides cultural insights, manages compliance, and offers recommendations for projects, plans, and events aligned with Chair and Council direction. Additionally, they actively engage with stakeholders, including mentoring and fostering younger talents to uphold cultural traditions and values. This role is pivotal in ensuring the cultural integrity and representation of the Squamish Nation's protocols, while also fostering positive relationships with stakeholders and supporting the strategic direction of the Chair & Council.

- Comprehensive understanding and connection to the Squamish Nation community, language, culture, and history.
- Professional, adaptable, and confident communication style with strong interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with legislative requirements relevant to the Nation’s interests.
- Ability to support and inform strategic decision-making processes.
- Excellent relationship-building skills.
- Ability to maintain a balanced perspective between cultural needs and strategic public relations initiatives.
- High level of emotional intelligence, patience, and integrity with demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
- Extremely organized with excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
- Team-oriented with a positive, approachable attitude and an ability to deliver negative information tactfully and diplomatically when needed.
- Can lift up to 50lbs and is physically able to perform on-site duties required for the role.
***Salary**: $ 83,518 - $ 95,607 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits program
