**Policy Analyst - Language and Learning**

**Description**:The Assembly of First Nations Languages and Learning Sector is seeking an experienced and skilled individual to conduct research and provide analysis, advice and advocacy that reflects the AFN’s priorities with respect to First Nations languages and education.
Reporting to the Director of Languages and Learning, the Policy Analyst has the following key responsibilities:
**Responsibilities**:
Research and Analysis:
- Conduct comprehensive research on language and learning policies and best practices
Policy Development and Evaluation:
- Develop policy proposals and recommendations based on research findings and stakeholder consultations.
- Evaluate existing policies and regulations to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, educational institutions and First Nations to gather input and ensure policy coherence.
Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare clear and concise reports, policy briefs, and presentations summarizing research findings and policy recommendations.
- Present research outcomes and policy proposals to internal and external stakeholders, including government officials, educational institutions, and First Nations Communities
- Respond to inquiries and provide expert advice on Language and Learning policy-related matters.
Collaboration and Networking:
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in First Nations communities, educational institutions and government officials.
- Stay informed about the latest developments in Language and Learning management.
- Participate in the various working groups and support the group with organizing and coordinating AFN’s participation in meetings.
**Who Can Apply**: Qualified persons of Indigenous ancestry will be given preference in accordance with s. 16(1) of the _Canadian Human Rights Act_.
**Qualifications**:
- An undergraduate degree in education, linguistics, political sciences, or a related field of study with a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in education and language initiatives
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in policy analysis, preferably working directly with First Nations or working with First Nations policies and programs
- Strong understanding of Language and Learning management principles, international agreements, and regulatory frameworks with a First Nations lens
- Proficiency in data analysis and statistical software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and facilitation of collaborative processes is desirable.
- English is the working language although the ability to communicate effectively in French or an Indigenous language would be an asset
