Intent of the process
**Job Summary**:
The Policy and Government Relations team plays a key role in NSERC’s corporate activities. It is the principal point of contact between NSERC staff responsible for delivering core programming to the community - peer-reviewed research grants of varying durations, scholarships, fellowships, training programs, science outreach/capacity building, academic-private, government and non-government partnerships - and numerous stakeholders external to NSERC such as research granting agencies (domestic and international), other government departments, Parliamentarians and the post-secondary education community.
The Policy Analyst: provides policy advisory, planning, design and analysis services in respect of science and technology (S&T) to promote the development of natural sciences and engineering research in Canada; monitors the national and international environment in which NSERC carries out its mandate to identify and analyze issues and trends and their potential impact on NSERC and its programs; and, conducts liaison and representation with multiple stakeholders, within and outside of government, in support of NSERC's interests.

**Education**:
Degree from a recognized university, preferably in natural sciences, engineering, political science, public policy/administration, science policy, economics, or an acceptable combination of education, experience and/or training relevant to the position.
Degree equivalency
Foreign Credential Validation against Canadian Standards
**Experience**:
Experience in planning, organizing and performing unique and complex studies; analyzing multiple sources of information and findings; assessing the program and policy impacts; identifying and formulating options and recommendations
Experience in report writing and in preparing evidence-based briefings and recommendations
Experience in policy development and analysis
Experience in representing organizations at meetings and making presentations
Assets:
Experience working with the research community, government partners, and other S&T stakeholders (e.g., in the administration of research funding programs, or partnership development, in a university, government or industry setting)
Experience with the preparation of documents to Treasury Board.
Experience in equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) analysis and policy development, implementation and evaluation.
Experience in engagement with Indigenous (Inuit, First Nations, Métis) rights holders.
**Knowledge**:
Knowledge of Canadian government policy related to S&T and related to international relations in S&T
Knowledge of the Canadian post-secondary education (PSE) sector (university, college, polytechnic CEGEP) context and of the changing needs of and demands on the PSE research community
Awareness of sources of key statistics and economic indicators on trends and international benchmarking in S&T, R&D, and higher education
