**Position Summary**:
**Responsibilities**:
***The FCS works alongside the ERP as part of an emergency management team. The FCS is responsible for ensuring quality programs are delivered to the seven member First Nations and their facilities, as well as within the STC organization and its 5 corporations. Responsibilities of the FCS include:
Leading and supporting the development of FireSmart programming in member First Nation communities including:

- Wildfire pre-suppression planning
- Wildfire risk assessments
- Fuel reduction, forest thinning, prescribed burning
- Fire breaks
- Wildland fire crew training
- Vegetation management
- Fire mapping
- FireSmart training, workshops, conferences
- Community and youth engagement

Assisting the development of member First Nation Fire Departments through:

- Recruitment and retention activities
- Training (structural, interface, and wildland)
- Fire hall assessment and development
- Maintenance of fire equipment and PPE
- Tracking of calls and analysis of fire data

Developing relationships with partner agencies and government

Support STC’s programs through fire prevention, safety planning, and emergency responses as related to fire

Supporting the ERP in the maintenance of a comprehensive program inclusive of the five pillars of emergency management; prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery

Other duties as assigned

Although the FCS focuses primarily on fire-related activities, they work alongside the Emergency Response Planner and occasionally aid in all aspects of Emergency Management.

This FCS must be available on short notice for emergency responses. Compensation for hours worked during an emergency is provided in accordance with STC policies.

***Working Environment**:Standard office environment; regular travel to communities and work in the field during emergencies that could be in difficult environmental conditions. This role may require occasional visit to sites under construction/renovation, as well as working in environments with increased risk.

**Physical Demands**: Driving and sensory demands, occasional heavy lifting and physically demanding manual tasks, working extended hours in difficult environmental conditions

**Education and Experience**:

- Post secondary education in a related field;
- Minimum of five (5) years of applicable professional experience;
- Certification in NFPA 1001, 1002, and 1041;
- Type 3 Emergency Firefighter certification;
- Experience in structural and wildland fire response;
- Experience with Incident Command System including certifications in ICS-100 & ICS-200;
- Experience working with a First Nations organization and familiarity with First Nations culture, history and governance is an asset.

**Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities**:

- Knowledge and understanding of Fire/Building codes & compliance;
- Significant knowledge of the risk assessment process, including how to identify potential preventative/mitigative measures;
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective emergency plan writing and the ability to distinguish between strategic, tactical, and operational plans;
- High level of proficiency with computers, especially Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
- Ability to stay calm in emergency situations and work effectively under pressure;
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision;
- Ability to work in a team environment with an emphasis on collaborative problem solving;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills;
- High level of confidentiality, strong work ethic, and personal and professional integrity to ensure sensitive information is kept confidential and adheres to STC’s policies
- Interpersonal Skills: The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Communicates clearly, seek solutions, demonstrates flexibility and seeks guidance when needed

**Other**:

- Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license or comparable alternative and meet STC’s insurance requirements;
- Must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC) as a condition of employment.
