**PROGRAM ASSISTANT - Research and Evaluation**

**CANDIDATE PROFILE**:The Program Assistant enjoys working with youth and working in diversity.
They will have experience in providing administrative and logístical support to programs and projects working for social change, ideally in contexts involving newcomers and/or youth, and will come with relevant relational, technological and networking skills. They are experienced in multi-tasking, working well in team roles and taking initiative as needed. **POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY**:IRCOM’s Strategic Plan commits IRCOM to better understand its model through improved data collection, research and evaluation. It also encourages us to review and focus our efforts to bring about systemic change. This position plays an important role in moving IRCOM forward in these 2 areas. The current Newcomer Refugee Youth (NRY) research project is a refugee youth
- led Participatory Action Research project aimed at engaging youth, parents and key stakeholders in the justice and educational systems, for purposes of systemic change.
Guided by the vision, mission, and values of the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of
Manitoba Inc. (IRCOM), and with the supervision and support of the Research and Evaluation Coordinator, the Program Assistant will have the following:
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Research Group Support (80%)**
- Play a lead role in recruiting youth to become youth researchers
- Mentor and support youth research group members and help implement team-building and youth engagement activities
- Contact and correspond with potential research participants and organizations
- Organize, schedule and prepare spaces and material for Research Group Meetings
- Collect, document, organize and/or distribute research information as needed or directed
- Identify potential opportunities, organizations and individuals to include in project
- Assist with training youth to conduct a Participatory Action Research Project
- Assist the youth research group to share their findings (knowledge mobilization) with key systems: e.g., social media, pop-up cafes, videos, presentations, as examples
**Team and Interdepartmental Support (20%)**
- Participate in staff and inter-departmental meetings, events and trainings
- Liaise regularly with the After School Program and Community Resource Program
- Provide administrative and technical support to ongoing research and evaluation efforts at IRCOM
- Other duties as assigned
**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Minimum 2 years administrative experience
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as Community Development
- Extensive computer experience with Microsoft Office and databases
- Demonstrated relationship building and networking skills with newcomer youth, or youth from varied cross-cultural backgrounds
- Meticulous organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
- Demonstrated experience working in a very fast paced, multi-tasking environment
- Ability to work as a team player as well as take initiative and work with mínimal supervision
- Thorough knowledge of administrative, clerical procedures and operation of business machines
- Present a current Criminal Record Check and maintain a clear Child Abuse Registry Check

**DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Experience in promoting systems change
- Experience in creative, community-based knowledge mobilization
- Familiarity with participatory action research
- Lived experience as a refugee and/or BIPOC person; or strong understanding of refugee experiences
- Fluency in additional languages
**HOURS OF WORK**:This is a permanent part-time position to a maximum of 20 hours per week. Working out of 95 Ellen Street and the 215 Isabel Street locations, the Program Assistant’s hours will be a mix of work during office hours (9-5), shifting to afternoon-evening work as required. Occasional weekend work will be required in order to be accessible to research participants.
