ICC Canada is looking for an experienced and energetic lead for its health portfolio. The ICC Canada office oversees the health file for ICC international. The Health Officer will be responsible for developing and overseeing annual health work plans designed to advance circumpolar Inuit health issues and achieve the health-related articles contained in ICC’s current Declaration signed at the General Assembly. The Health Officer will supervise and work with the Health Coordinator and collaborate with other staff and stakeholders in Canada and the other ICC countries.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Work Planning**
- Coordinate health activities identified in the annual ICC Canada Health Work Plan and the annual ICC Canada Operational Plan and strategically develop future projects.
- Develop an annual health work plan to complete work under the current Declaration signed at the General Assembly.
- Following the adoption of a new Declaration, develop a 4-year work plan and investigate/design strategic and appropriate initiatives/activities to implement health-related activities and advance health issues prioritized by the delegates of the ICC General Assembly.
- Develop plan to implement recommendations from the Circumpolar Inuit Health Summit and link to health and well-being issues at the Arctic Council.
- Work on post-COVID-19 pandemic response initiatives and continue strengthening ICC’s resilience in the face of unexpected shocks, such as a pandemic.

**Fundraising**
- Actively fundraise financial resources to support health related activities.
- Design proposals, inclusive of cover letter, work plan and budget for funders.

**Supporting and Advancing Circumpolar Engagement**
- Enhance and increase ICC Canada’s contribution to circumpolar health initiatives within Inuit Nunaat and the broader circumpolar world.
- Assist Canadian Inuit to situate the international and circumpolar dimensions of health (including those from the Inuit of Greenland, Alaska, and Russia) within the context of the national perspective, and, in parallel, communicate national perspectives to Inuit outside of Canada and other international audiences.
- Monitor and participate (as appropriate) in various international health bodies such as the International Congress of Circumpolar Health (ICCH), the World Health Organization (WHO) and others.
- When directed by the Executive Director, represent ICC Canada at a variety of national and international meetings with policy makers (from governments and Inuit organizations) and with scientists and researchers (such as health workers, academics, and community members).
- Support ICC’s leadership in participation at special events, including consultation with organizers, drafting speaking notes, briefings and other activities.
- Enhance international opportunities for youth engagement in support of Inuit health priorities.

**Partnerships and Collaboration**
- Work closely with Canada’s national Inuit organization, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK), and the national health-related working groups and the regional land claims organizations providing them with international and circumpolar perspectives of health, as well as gaining from ITK/regions the various domestic perspectives that are important to Inuit.
- Liaise and work with other circumpolar Indigenous Peoples (Saami, Gwich’in, Athabaskans, RAIPON and Aleut) on shared health priorities.
- Build and maintain community, regional, academic, and organizational partnerships as well as contacts with UN special rapporteurs.

**Research**
- Undertake research to maintain an understanding of the overall international/circumpolar Inuit research and policy agenda as it relates to Inuit health.
- Contribute international Inuit health concerns to national assessments of relevance.
- Continue to research and monitor international advancements on health concerns of interest to Inuit that may be applied to the Canadian Inuit context.

**Communication and Knowledge Exchange**
- Facilitate circumpolar exchange of information and best practices on health-related priorities.
- Develop and implement a work program on communications, including COVID-specific elements and other related health issues (i.e., databases, press releases).

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline: health, health sciences, nutrition, political/social science, environmental sciences, etc. with a minimum of 4 years of related work experience and/or field research in a similar role; or
- College diploma in a field applicable to ICC’s mandate (Indigenous issues, environment, food security, health, marine issues) with a minimum of 4 years of related work experience and/or field research in a similar role; or
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience in a similar role.
