**Working for the Injury Prevention Centre**

The Injury Prevention Centre (IPC) is housed within the School of Public Health and has been working to prevent deaths and serious injuries to Albertans since 1999. Through strong partnerships with health professionals, educators, enforcement and others, we build coalitions and networks that cooperatively address injury issues. IPC uses research combined with practitioner expertise and community lived experience to address the injury problem. IPC is the go-to injury prevention expert organization in Alberta.

**Position Summary**

This position provides leadership in developing, implementing and evaluating the education activities of the IPC to encourage, promote and support effective and sustainable activities for the prevention of injuries. This position also leads the Centre’s child injury prevention area.

**Duties**
- Identify, establish and maintain relationships with key injury prevention partners, stakeholders and sponsors
- Develop and maintain a network of key stakeholders and communities interested in children’s injury prevention
- Provide planning support for the Centre’s newsletter, webinars, etc.
- Provide expertise to stakeholders and partners related to injury prevention in children
- Initiate, manage, facilitate, evaluate, and support injury prevention initiatives’ such as the Brain Waves, Safe Kids Week, Poison Prevention Week, Elementary School Injury Prevention Toolkit and Prescription for Safety, etc.
- Coordinate and/or participate on internal and external committees, task groups and teams as appropriate.
- Establish and maintain knowledge and awareness of current child injury prevention and issues, programs and resources
- Initiate, develop, implement and evaluate educational offerings tailored to different audiences such as teachers, educational consultants, community stakeholders and injury prevention stakeholders
- Prepare and make presentations from local to national in scope
- Share the information and results of the IPC education activities through a variety of communication methods (social media, e-newsletter, partner meetings)
- Develop resources, as needed, to support the child Injury prevention activities of the IPC
- Attend public events/workshops to share child injury prevention information and resources
- Manage child injury prevention program budget ~$5,000 annually
- Participate in other Centre projects and activities as assigned

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Health Promotion, Public Health, Nursing, Kinesiology, or related field
- Additional training in injury prevention would be an asset. A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a health education role
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with diverse audiences
- Strong organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- Ability to facilitate meetings, workshops, webinars and public speak
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, partners and stakeholders
