**Child and Youth Worker (1 Position)**
**8 Week Contract, 35 Hours per Week. $15.50 per hour *non-negotiable**
**Hours of work: Monday
- Friday between 8am
- 6pm**
**Our Camps/Programs**:
The goal of our camps/programs is to provide a comfortable and receptive environment where participants can improve their typing, social and academic skills. Many students with a learning disability have difficulties in these areas and require explicit instruction and support in developing these skills. Our staff are trained to understand and guide children and youth through the process with sensitivity to their individual needs. Our programming offers a “go at your own speed” opportunity for children to learn the essentials while providing them with a safe place to practice and develop their potential.
**Our sessions will**:
- Teach typing technique, accuracy and speed using software that engages the student and reinforces continued practice
- Help participants develop social skills, life skills, and problem-solving strategies, including conversation and basic interaction skills
- Assist participants with remedial academic skills, like reading, writing, math
- Provide direct instruction catered to meet individual needs
- Be taught through easy to follow directions and systematic, clear feedback about performance
- Consider different learning styles and attention spans while providing accommodations to help participants develop their skills
**Qualifications**:
- **Must be between ages 15-30**
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience supporting children with special needs, inclusion support, ECE, CYC or related experience working with children ages 5-13
- Post-secondary education in a related field is an asset (Teaching, Educational Assistant, Behavioural support, Psychology, Sociology, Social Service Worker, ECE or Child and Youth Worker Programs), Psychology, Social Service Worker,
- Interest and experience creating programming and plans for children (group behaviour, typing, social skills, communication, problem solving, academics, ect.)
- Understanding of the academic, behavioural and social issues facing youth with Learning Disabilities/ ADHD
- Experience working children with exceptionalities, with an ability to engage, empower and educate
- Ability to work independently within a team setting
- Ability to navigate and deliver online programming as required
- HIGH FIVE, Principles of Healthy Child Development
- CPI, UMAB
- First Aid/CPR
- A valid Vulnerable Sector’s Criminal Record Check
**As a Child and Youth Worker, your job will consist of the following**:
- Be present and punctual for your shifts
- provide support for children with behavioural challenges and special needs
- support children who require 1:1 instruction/guidance to integrate fully into the camp with the other children
- Support team with the supervision and management of small groups of children between the ages of 5-13
- Guide children to acquire new skills while allowing them to progress at their own pace
- Organize and facilitate the programming required
- Document each child’s progress on a weekly basis in relation to their personal goals and the goals of the program. This will include daily report logs to document their progress
- Provide a safe, unbiased, and non-judgmental environment for both the participants and fellow co-workers
- Develop behavioural support plans for students
- Discuss the participant’s progress in a positive manner to their parents and guardians
- Keep in strict confidence any confidential information regarding the LDA-Toronto or any information concerning the participants of the agency’s programs
- Introduce and practice strategies for working with students with Learning Disabilities and/or AD(H)D
- Report to the Program Admin with weekly updates, questions or concerns
- Carry out responsibilities, as directed by the Program Admin with professionalism, dignity and integrity
- Work cooperatively with co-workers and program management via team meetings, supervisory discussions, and any other level that expresses a professional tone within the Agency
A police clearance letter completed within the past twelve months will be required prior to commencing employment. Access to a car and valid driver’s license would be an asset.
