Finance and Controlling Manager

The Finance and Controlling Manager manages controls and is responsible for the controlling and finance departments. The position is the financial accounting for the company, which collects, classifies and analyzes accounting information and data to prepare financial statements and reports for internal and external users. The position is also responsible for business and financial planning and forecasting, business process and interdepartmental information flow, and decision making.
**NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION**
The position of the Finance and Controlling Manager is expected to deliver financial statements on a regular basis and to prepare and assist in the internal and external financial audit annually. The position is expected to prepare a business plan, and compare actual figures to forecasts.
Internally, the Finance and Controlling Manager interacts with the CFO, department managers, Organization & IT, as well as all other PWO personnel from the Sales, Project Management, Quality, Logistics, and Maintenance Departments. External contacts consist of customers, bank personnel, auditors, PWO AG and sister companies.
The incumbent manages the work of others and makes decisions regarding accounting, investments, expenses and remuneration within the department.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
Education: Completion of a post secondary education in a Business Administration or Business Management program is required. Completion of a CPA Designation program is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: The position must have an excellent understanding of accounting, general accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and business management. Working understanding of IFRS is an asset. The position requires the ability to use Microsoft Office and MRP systems. Management skills such as delegation, problem solving, organization, time management, leadership and interpersonal skills are required.
Communication Skills: Organized, calm disposition and strong communication skills to interact with customers, co-workers and subordinates.
Nature and Length of Experience: At least five years experience in a similar job in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
1. Manages all Accounting and Controlling staff to ensure work completion.
2. Responsible for following all established procedures in FI/CO areas.
3. Prepares and completes required financial statements (i.e. Monthly, annually, etc.) and other miscellaneous reports for management and outside firms as required.
4. Oversees the classification of transactions and ensures they are correctly classified and assigned to the proper accounts.
5. Ensures federal and provincial income tax installments are made according to schedule.
6. Ensures that an income tax provision is calculated on a monthly and annual basis for reports.
7. Oversees the preparation of monthly disclosures for financial institutions.
8. Reports to Stats Canada when required.
9. Reconciles bank accounts to the general ledger monthly.
10. Ensures proper cash flow and forecasts cash flow activities.
11. Analyzes financial positions when necessary to the business plan. Responsible for monthly bank interest, loan payments, foreign exchange transactions and forecasts.
12. Forecasts and executes hedges.
13. Prepares documentation for foreign currency forward contracts to classify for hedging.
14. Monitors and reviews expense accounts and investigates irregularities in a timely manner.
15. Prepares budget and forecast reports as required.
16. Assists company auditors at the financial annual audit as required.
17. Ensures department costs are within the annual business plan.
18. Analyzes the cost structure and champions cost-saving initiatives.
19. Makes necessary arrangements for the procurement of loans or financing.
20. Responsible for the hiring, training, evaluation and discipline of all staff within the department.
21. Deals with government authorities such as the CRA.
22. Efficient use of electronic data collection software.
23. Performs all duties within the 5S standards.
24. Following and performing the instructions as listed in the Work Area Reference Manual(s) applicable to the department.
25. Compliance to all company policies and procedures.
26. Responsible for working safely, complying with safety policies and procedures, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) required in the designated areas as per company policy.
27. Responsible for working safely and keeping a safe work area for themselves and fellow employees.
28. Manages the work performed and work area to comply with all safety requirements for all staff. Manages and coordinates the corrective measures for all unsafe work conditions and personal injuries for all staff.
