**Cultural Youth Program Facilitator**

**This is a full-time position - 40 hours per week**

We are looking for an identifying male and identifying female Cultural Youth Program Facilitator to implement the Youth and Elder Mentorship Program that will entail taking 10-15 youth ages 13-21 years, including weekly sessions, monthly overnight fieldtrips, and quarterly family events. The primary focus of the Cultural Youth Program Facilitator is to provide youth teachings with the primary target population being Indigenous youth, and the second target population being non-Indigenous youth who may be involved with or who are at risk of being involved with Children's Services Authority and facilitate culturally appropriate workshops for youth that wish to register in the _Youth and Elder Mentorship _and_ Medicine Wheel and 12 Steps for Youth_ programs. Group facilitators provide participants with information and serve as healthy role models and advocates for successful recovery, maintained sobriety, and foundations of cultural identity. Groups are designed to develop a safe and consistent environment; the Cultural Youth Program Facilitator will work non-intrusively with youth to facilitate the learning of:

- Better communication skills
- How to appropriately express their feelings
- Demonstrating anger management skills
- Being able to use problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Developing coping skills to deal with stressful situations
- Increasing their knowledge of the impact of alcohol and other substances on their bodies
- Providing a safe, nurturing place for youth to talk and explore their feelings and choices
- Facilitating trust through a process of bonding with consistent role modeling
- Developing their self-awareness and self-worth
- How chemical dependency is a disease and how it affects family members
- The 12 steps to sobriety using the Medicine Wheel

**Duties (may include, but are not limited to)**:

- Plan and implement overnight culturally relevant field trips for youth and Elder mentorship
- Plan and implement bi-weekly workshops using the _Medicine Wheel and 12 Steps for Youth _curriculum in collaboration with other facilitators;
- Plan and implement quarterly Family Friendship Nights
- Collaboratively facilitate monthly check-ins with group leaders;
- Document all survey and anecdotal evidence discovered in program sessions;
- Involve relevant professionals upon participant's request;
- Participate in community events pertaining indirectly to the Indigenous community and directly related to Red Deer Native Friendship Society;
- Participate in weekly Four Directions team meetings to evaluate participant and program progress;
- Complete quarterly and annual reports of outcome measures for the funder;
- Provide monthly and quarterly reports for the Director of Programs and the Executive Director; and,
- Any other duties as requested or required for the good of Red Deer Native Friendship Society

**Qualifications, Experience, and Skills**:

- Post secondary in relevant field
- Teaching/facilitation skills
- Positive parenting skills (and experience)
- Ability to build positive working relationships with a variety of individuals, groups, and organizations
- Respect and support local Indigenous cultural values, beliefs, and traditions
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with Indigenous participants, including sound knowledge and understanding of the issues that impact the culture in contemporary society
- Experience working with at-risk First Nation, Inuit, and Métis population
- Knowledge of social, economic, and health issues relevant to the urban Indigenous community
- Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
- Strong organizational and negotiating skills and the ability to handle sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy
- Excellent time management skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Observation skills

**Specifications**:

- Criminal record check for working with vulnerable populations required
- A current driver's license, a clean driver abstract, and a vehicle in good, working condition required
