Under the general direction of the Legal Counsel, the FIPPA (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act) Coordinator is responsible for establishing and implementing effective WPS operational procedures and guidelines to ensure WPS compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the terms of court orders for production of records, and for providing recommendations, support and expert interpretation of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act as it applies to matters involving the Winnipeg Police Service. The FIPPA Coordinator assists in coordinating FIPPA implementation and compliance activities within the WPS.

The position is responsible for drafting written responses, preparing and maintaining statistical reports, preparing and maintaining a compliance tracking system, preparing estimates of costs, gathering and preparing responsive records, and liaising with investigators from the office of the Manitoba Ombudsman.

**As a FIPPA Coordinator** **you will**:

- Develop, coordinate and implement effective policies, guidelines and procedures to manage Winnipeg Police Service compliance with access and privacy legislation and court orders for production of records
- Perform Privacy Impact Assessments
- Perform Training Duties
- Other duties as assigned

**Your education and qualifications include**:

- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
- Certificate in Records Management, an asset
- Minimum 24 months experience in privacy issues and records management in related field
- Minimum 12 months experience in access requests, interpretation & analysis within a government agency (within the last 3 years)
- Demonstrated basic level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of the Province’s Freedom of Information and Privacy Act resource manual
- Demonstrated knowledge of Section 25 of the Act
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism while dealing with challenging customers, clients, and employees
- Ability to exercise good judgment to solve problems and make decisions quickly and effectively under limited supervision
- Possess good organizational skills, ability to multi-task, prioritize work and meet deadlines
- Ability to work accurately with high attention to detail
- Ability to interpret and enforce relevant legislation and municipal policies
- Ability to analyze, identify and catalogue various documents for purposes of access, retention or disposal
- Ability to coordinate, plan implement and evaluate special projects

**Minimum requirements**:

- Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Minimum 18 years of age
- No involvement in any criminal activity within the last two years (including illegal drugs)
- No criminal record for which a Pardon has not been granted

**Conditions of Employment**:

- Ability to pass a level 3 Winnipeg Police Service security check
- Ability to successfully complete additional training as defined by the Service
- Prior to commencement of employment, the successful applicant will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination by providing a Government of Manitoba issued QR code and photo identification or providing proof of an exemption from the COVID-19 vaccination approved by the Government of Manitoba.
