JOB SUMMARY

The Asian Canadian and Asian Migration Studies program (ACAM) is a multidisciplinary undergraduate program exploring the history, culture, and contemporary development of Asian communities in Canada, and Asian migrations outside of Asia. The Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all administrative aspects of the ACAM program and coordinating its strategic goals, which include curriculum development and management, budgeting and grant management, as well as community engagement and outreach.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS

The Program Coordinator works closely with and reports to the ACRE ACAM Program Development and Research Manager; supervises student assistants at undergraduate and graduate levels; liaises with UBC faculty members, community partners and stakeholders, and other UBC units including the Dean’s Office, Arts Advising, Arts ISIT, Arts Curriculum Committee, Community Engagement Office, the Centre for Community Engaged Learning, the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Technology, UBC Library, etc.

WORK PERFORMED

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT
- Works closely with ACAM Director, ACAM Minor Advisor, ACRE ACAM Program Development and Research Manager, and the ACAM Faculty Advisory Committee to align curriculum goals with the program's strategic vision
- Oversees the planning and implementation of courses and curriculum initiatives that align with the program’s commitment in community-engaged, experiential learning, in particular ACAM_V 320J - Asian Canadian Research & Engagement Studio and ACAM_V 390A Go Global Seminar, including
- Liaising with campus partners such as Community Engagement Office, Centre for Community Engaged Learning, Learning Exchange, and Go Global
- Managing and maintaining relationships with community partners to support course-based university-community collaboration
- Supervising student assistants to provide coordination support for course-related public-facing programming and community outreach
- Overseeing overall budget planning and expenditures associated with the two courses
- Managing off-campus research and learning opportunities (such as the post-ACAM_V 390A summer work placement) that benefit both students and community partners
- Manages consultation process for curriculum proposals and changes involving faculty, students, campus partners, and community stakeholders
- Oversees administration of new and existing ACAM courses
- Work with ACRE ACAM Program Development and Research Manager to support revenue plus program development opportunities that expand undergraduate community-based course curricula to appropriate programs for adult learners such as graduate students, alumni and Asian Canadians communities (for example, Asian Canadian heritage and educational field trips to South China/Kaiping, Yuquot, Fraser River, and Vancouver Island);

BUDGETING AND GRANT MANAGEMENT
- Develops and maintains budget plans and expenditure reports for public-facing and student engagement programming such as the annual Welcome Back event, ACAM Dialogues, ACAM Podcast, ACAM Graduation Celebration, and course-specific guest lectures and showcases

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND OUTREACH
- Work with ACRE ACAM Program Development and Research Manager to maintain ongoing relationships with key units on campus, such as Arts Development and Alumni Engagement, Arts Communications, Community Engagement Office, Centre for Community Engaged Learning, and St. John’s College to facilitate cross-campus collaboration and community building
- Supervises student assistants in the development and implementation of initiatives, activities, and communication
