**Position Summary**:
Leads internal and external operational readiness, response and recovery for mental health and wellness at FNHA as part of Emergency Management. Provides strategic leadership, policy and guidance for the development of, and continuous improvement towards, health emergency management mental health and wellness programming following before, during and after disasters. Works collaboratively across FNHA and provides direct support to the regional health emergency management teams and works collaboratively with First Nation communities and other partners in planning for and implementing mental health and wellness work into emergency management structures.
**Responsibilities**:
1. Informs and supports the strategic operational plans for health emergency management mental health and wellness including both short and long term goals, objectives, policy, procedures and guidelines to support FNHA’s goals and vision; and works to identify, develop, implement and evaluate mental health and wellness to support First Nation communities before, during and after emergency events.
2. Collaborates with the FNHA Mental Health and Wellness team and external emergency management and/or health sector partners regarding the development of an evidence informed framework for delivering mental health and wellness support during and after disaster events. Provides leadership, consultation and coordination on behalf of FNHA to provincial level disaster mental health working groups and addresses gaps in disaster mental health and wellness services as identified by impacted First Nations communities.
3. On behalf of FNHA, leads the coordination of appropriate mental health and wellness needs during response and recovery by working alongside the regional HEM teams and consulting and liaising with impacted First Nation communities and their leadership, local service providers, NGO’s, and various provincial and federal government agencies.
4. Establishes partnerships with provincial and federal government as well as NGO’s, to ensure there is a well-planned approach to mental health and wellness support as the provision of this support is an integral part of disaster relief and well as social and cultural recovery.
5. Responds to requests for mental health and wellness support and works collaboratively with mental health practitioners and other wellness organizations and identifies community resources to ensure appropriate support, engagement, and/or training is available within the scope of the program and the funding.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**
- A University Degree with specialization in psychology, sociology, or other related fields.
- Completion of formal training or qualifications in health emergency management or emergency management is preferred.
**Experience**
- Recent and significant experience (usually acquired with a minimum of 5 years) in emergency management
- Recent and significant experience (usually acquired with a minimum of 5 years) working within inter-governmental relationships and responsibilities
- Recent experience work on mental health issues, stress management, trauma and evidence based interventions in disaster mental health and wellness planning, response and recovery.
- Recent experience working with public and private mental health and wellness health care systems, mental health teams and programs, First Nation communities and other service agencies.
- Experience in providing advice and recommendations to senior management on health emergency preparedness and response issues
- Experience working with First Nations communities and/or organizations
**Knowledge, Skills & Attributes**:
Knowledge
- Knowledge of First Nations in BC, including the governance landscape particularly as it relates to health and wellness
