Undergraduate Academic Advisor

**Location**:
- This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.
As an Academic Advisor within the Faculty of Nursing, you’ll play a vital role in guiding students through their academic journey, helping them navigate complex decisions with confidence. You'll be the go-to expert for tackling non-routine queries, from course selection to understanding academic policies, ensuring students make informed choices every step of the way.
Additionally, you will provide advice on academic exchanges and course transfers, offering students opportunities to broaden their horizons. And when life outside the classroom presents challenges, you’ll be there to listen, providing advice and connecting students to the resources they need for support.

Application Assessment
- Conducts admissions reporting, including collecting and analyzing data to inform decision making processes.
- Evaluates domestic and international credentials.
- Participates in documentation and procedure development
- Conducts research into the credit and course level systems for institutions and courses that have not yet been evaluated; develops and maintains a database of international and domestic transfer credit decisions.
Program Advising (Post-Acceptance)
- Advises continuing and prospective students on program related matters such as: advising on academic standing, providing GPA calculations and scenarios, advising on program changes, advising on potential transfer credit and performing advanced program planning.
- Identifies, assesses, refers and advocates for students at risk.
- Provides students with information about alternatives, limitations and possible consequences of academic decisions.
Program Decisions
Convocation/Program Completion
- Completes convocation clearing for graduates to ensure full degree requirements are met.
- Verifies program completion and certifies to the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) students can write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) and receive their Temporary Practice Permits to legally work in Canada.
- Advises students of any program deficiencies and the consequences
Education & Certifications
- Undergraduate degree and/or diploma in a relevant field, supplemented by experience in course administration.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in program/administrative coordination.
- Background in assessing domestic and international academic qualifications.
- Proven track record in guiding students on academic progress, program planning, transfer credit assessments, and convocation requirements.
- Handling of confidential information
Technical Skills
- Thorough understanding of databases and database integrity procedures.
- Strong analytical skills for data collection, reporting, and process improvement.
- Strong knowledge of University policies, procedures, and academic scheduling.
Soft Skills & Competencies
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service in a positive and encouraging manner.
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and recognize the timelines of other areas.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Assets
- Training in mental health and suicide prevention (e.g., Mental Health First Aid, ASSIST Training).
- Experience with University Academic Calendar, Campus Solutions and PeopleSoft (student) is a strong asset
- Data monitoring experience, familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau) for admissions reporting.
- Membership and/or certification from an academic advising or student services organization, i.e. CACUSS or NACADA.
