Under the supervision of the Manager of Early Years, the Inuit Cultural Program Educator will be grounded in Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Principles and How Does Learning Happen (Ontario’s pedagogy) to plan and deliver family-centered culturally based activities for the Ilagiinut Kativvik EarlyON Program.

**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Plan and implement in-person Inuit language and cultural activities for parents and guardians for Inuit children aged 0-6 years old in the greater Ottawa area that promote Inuit traditions, skill, language and cultural activities
- Collect, develop and maintain a wide selection of cultural teaching materials and activities for children/parents in collaboration with other Cultural Teachers in the Early Years Programs
- Support parents by connecting them to appropriate resources they may need, such as clothing, education, employment, food, mental health services, housing
- Participate in meetings to share ideas, resources and activities to promote cultural knowledge
- Use a variety of outreach strategies to promote child and family programs/activities
- Engage in positive collaboration with other programs and staff in scheduling programs, coordinating the effective use of equipment, facilities and personnel
- Under the guidance of the registered early childhood educator (RECE), recognize and respond to the needs of each child by using positive child guidance
- Identify and report on concerns, issues and hazards related to the delivery of programs to the Manager of Early Years.
- Interacting with and engaging families Outreach and community engagement
- Support the collection of data for reporting
- Monitor the health, safety and well-being of children in the program
- Purchase and prepare healthy meals and snacks for programs including country food
- Understand and adhere to all program policies (e.g., health and safety)
- Participate as a team member in supervising children in programs
- Comply with all recording and reporting requirements outlined in Inuuqatigiit Centre’s policies and procedures (e.g., incident reports)
- Maintain program equipment in good repair and share responsibility for keeping a healthy and safe program space, including sanitization of toys
- Meet all tracking, evaluation and reporting requirements of funder and Inuuqatigiit Centre (client notes, attendance, maintaining project statistics, meeting project targets, creating surveys, completing Incident/Accident reports).

**ACCOUNTABILITY**
- Accountable for the well-being of children and parents
- Accountable for the cultural integrity of all child and family programs
- Adhere to and promote the mandate, workplan and mission of Inuuqatigiit Centre.

**WORKING RELATIONSHIPS**
- Represent Inuuqatigiit Centre at meetings, presentations and conferences with stakeholders including partner agencies, funders and government
- Develop supportive and professional rapport with Inuuqatigiit Centre staff
- Participate in conflict resolution when required.

**EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS**
- Communicate as required with parents about programs and activities (e.g., conversations, flyers, call arounds, etc.)
- Respond to parent inquiries and requests for cultural programming
- Support the role of Elders and resource people in sharing traditional knowledge with children/families, (e.g., Elders, resource people)
- Ensure Inuktitut translation for program communications resources.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Work regular and consistent weekly hours of work
- Required to work regular evening and weekend hours related to program activities, after hours crisis support, parent engagement activities and community events
- Additional hours on occasion to meet deadlines and ensure delivery of high-quality programs and services.

**KNOWLEDGE AND SILLS**
- Written and spoken fluency in Inuktitut would be a strong asset
- Knowledge in the needs of Inuit children and families
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, in English
- Ability to work in a collaborative staff team environment
- Ability to function effectively in a high stress, high noise environment
- Ability to operate computer systems and relevant software
- Willing to learn How Does Learning Happen Ontario’s Pedagogy.

**QUALIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS**
- Inuit descent **required**
- High school diploma or equivalency required
- Post-secondary education diploma in related area considered an asset
- Minimum of one year of experience working in a family-oriented program
- Experience working with Inuit or Indigenous communities preferred
- Vulnerable Sector Check required in keeping with Inuuqatigiit Centre Personnel P
