Manager, Culture Program
Full-time, 3 Year Term

It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit, and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.
The Culture program manager is accountable for ensuring the delivery of culturally relevant and responsive programming that supports the preservation, promotion, and engagement with Inuit culture. The manager designs, plans, and oversees the implementation of cultural programs, events and activities that align with the needs of the urban Inuit community, ensuring that programs are grounded in Inuit traditions, languages, and values while being adaptable to the urban context. They engage with Inuit community members to ensure their input and feedback guide programming, fostering relationships with Elders, youth, and other key stakeholders to enhance cultural continuity and learning. Leading a team of cultural facilitators and program coordinators, providing guidance, mentoring, and supervision, ensuring staff are trained and supported to deliver culturally safe and appropriate programming. Acts as a representative and advocate for Inuit culture within the organization and in partnerships with other agencies, working collaboratively with other departments. They set goals, track progress, and evaluate the impact of cultural programs to ensure they meet the needs of the community and funders’ expectations, regularly reporting on program outcomes to leadership and funders. Building and maintaining relations with community organizations, cultural institutions, and external partners to enhance the reach and scope of programming is essential. Ensure that cultural knowledge and practices, including language and traditional skills are preserved and passed on to future generations.
**Responsibilities**:
- Lead the creation and execution of Inuit cultural programs, ensuring they are rooted in Inuit traditions, language, and values. Tailor programs to meet the unique needs of the urban Inuit population while maintaining cultural integrity.
- Actively engage with the Inuit community, including Elders, youth, and families, to gather input and feedback on programming. Build strong relationships that foster trust and ensure that cultural programs reflect the community’s needs.
- Supervise, mentor, and support program staff, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality cultural programming. Foster a positive, culturally safe working environment for the team.
- Providing leadership, ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed to execute their responsibilities effectively, and fostering teamwork.
- Monitors their performance, ensuring adherence to policies and achievement of program goals.
- Ensure the preservation and promotion of Inuit language, traditional knowledge, and cultural practices within all programs. Facilitate intergenerational learning and create opportunities for youth to connect to their heritage.
- Responsible for proposal writing, budgets, and program reporting
- Develop and implement systems for tracking program outcomes and evaluating their impact.
- Regularly report to senior management and funders, ensuring transparency and accountability in meeting program objectives and funder requirements.
**Qualifications**:
Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide a team, conflict resolution and team-building skills to create a culturally safe and supportive work environment, active listening and relationship-building skills to foster trust and collaboration within the community, presentation skills, organizational and planning skills, analytical and strategic thinking skills, interpersonal skills are required. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage a wide range of audiences, including Elders, youth, staff, funders, and partners. Multilingual ability in English and Inuktitut would be highly beneficial. Strong financial management skills, including developing, monitoring, and managing program budgets. Must possess empathy and compassion in working with diverse community members, particularly those who may be experiencing trauma or challenges.
The ability to build and maintain strong relationships with community members, Elders, youth, and other stakeholders is required.
Completion of Secondary School is required. Community College or Undergraduate Degree in related field is preferred. Three plus years’ experience in Indigenous Community Engagement is required. One plus yea
