Restorative Justice Caseworker
Full Time, Term end date March 30, 2025 with possibility of extension.

It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit, and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.
Reporting to the Manager of the Pisiksik Justice Department, RJC is responsible for the coordination of scheduling conferencing sessions, increasing public awareness through community engagement and outreach. This role is to ensure Inuit in the Ottawa region receive immediate access to programs and services to fulfill their agreement terms. This position provides direct services for Inuit impacted by crime and wrongdoing including clients, families, community members, and key stakeholders. The RJC will work in partnership with the RJL and key stakeholders to provide client reports and updates.
The Restorative Justice Caseworker (RJL) will coordinate and facilitate the work of the Ikajuriallattiit Restorative Justice Committee (IRJC) regarding diversion referrals of Tungasuvvingat Inuit’s (TI) Restorative Justice Program. Restorative Justice is a community-based practice used to strengthen communities, repair harm, and restore relationships when wrongdoings occur. It is a set of principles, values, and practices that create safe spaces for honest dialogue to take place.
**Responsibilities**:
- Organize and coordinate restorative justice diversion clients from referral sources. Coordinate restorative justice conferencing sessions with restorative justice committee and facilitators involving Inuit clients and their families.
- Coordinating with relevant community members, Elders, and knowledge keepers to ensure that Inuit cultural practices are integrated into the restorative justice process.
- Managing individual client cases, ensuring that they receive appropriate services and support, such as counselling, legal referrals, and conflict resolution programs
- Tracking progress and outcomes for each client and maintaining detailed records of interventions and resolutions.
- Preparing regular reports and updates on the progress of cases and program activities for funders, supervisors, and community stakeholders.
- Ensuring compliance with organizational policies, legal requirements, and confidentiality protocols.
- Collaborating with community partners, law enforcement, social workers, and other stakeholders to develop and maintain a network of restorative justice resources and referral systems.
- Engaging with Inuit community members to raise awareness of the RJ Program and promote participation
- Ensuring that all restorative justice activities are culturally relevant and responsive to the unique needs of Inuit clients.
- Incorporating Inuit values and traditions, such as respect, healing, and community cohesion into all aspects of work.
- Acting as an advocate for clients, ensuring they understand their rights and the restorative justice process, and helping them navigate the justice system
- Providing emotional support to victims, offenders, and families to foster healing and reconciliation.
**Qualifications**:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, case and file management skills, stress and time management skills, relationship‐building skills, group and one‐on‐one interview skills. Strong organizational skills and resourcefulness
Completion of Secondary School or Undergraduate Degree in Criminology, Social Sciences and Social Work is required.
Two plus years’ experience is required in a detailed knowledge and experience of restorative justice models and the criminal justice system. Three plus years’ experience is preferred in experience dealing with similar clientele, the justice system and community partners.

- Salary is $63,600 annually
