**AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY**:
Reports to the Project Manager, provides assistance with, and undertakes tasks related to the implementation of the City’s Transportation Master Plan and active transportation initiatives, towards developing a multi-modal transportation system that supports sustainable growth and development in Brampton.

- Assists in the formulation of transportation policies and provides input into scheduled reviews of the City’s Official Plan, and prepares/processes Official Plan Amendments, including participation/preparation of detailed background studies and analysis of transportation matters.
- Assists with tasks related to active transportation network planning and transportation demand management plans, policy updates, and implementation strategies, as well as active transportation programming initiatives and community events.
- Identifies emerging trends, determines the need and impacts of future transportation facilities, including active transportation infrastructure.
- Researches/reports on various transportation related planning policy matters, and monitors transportation planning issues, trends, policies, and performance.
- Represents the Transportation Planning division as required on project-specific inter-departmental and intergovernmental working groups and technical advisory committees.
- Attends and represents the Transportation Planning division at Council, Committees, Public Meetings, Ontario Municipal Board hearings, as required.
- Provides professional and technical expertise on multi-modal transportation planning and related matters in response to inquiries from various stakeholders.
- Conducts field work and site visits as required.
- Performs additional similar and related duties as assigned.

**SELECTION CRITERIA**:
**EDUCATION**:

- High School (Grade 12) graduation plus an additional program of over two years up to three years in Transportation Planning/Engineering or degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Transportation Engineering, or equivalent.

**EXPERIENCE**:

- Over 2 years up to and including 4 years of related experience.

**OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS**:

- Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP) and Register Professional Planner (RPP), Professional Engineer or Certified Engineering Technologist designations an asset.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of sustainable transportation and urban planning principles and the inter-relationship between transportation and land use.
- Knowledge of the Planning Act and related legislation and provincial policies, and an understanding of planning and transportation in the GTHA context.
- Knowledge and understanding of pedestrian and cycling facilities planning; TDM initiatives; public transit, roads planning and design standards.
- Experience in performing planning, research, and analytical tasks; preparing reports and recommendations on planning projects, programs, and policies; and communicating these effectively in oral and written form.
- Familiarity with transportation modelling and simulation methodology, tools, and techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, members of Council, other agencies and the public.
- Familiarity with the demands of a fast-paced municipal planning organization, and able to meet tight deadlines and balance multiple priorities.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and as a contributing member of a dynamic team.
