**GENERAL SUMMARY**
The Machine Shop Lead Hand is responsible for the creation of quality parts produced on machines such as, but not limited to, lathes and milling machines and equipment according to company plans, blueprints, and other diagrams. The Lead-hand must have a high level of mechanical aptitude, and 5 to 10 years work experience as a Lead-hand or equivalent experience coupled with 5 to 10 years of General Machinist experience. Responsibilities shall include the management of several shop floor employees, maintaining product quality, tool purchasing and safety. Also, he/she will work with managers, supervisors, other lead hands and shop floor employees to coordinate production schedules. The Lead-hand will detect and report equipment malfunctions to their immediate supervisor.
**PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)**:
- Coordination of Production Schedules in conjunction with Planners and Scheduler
- Monitor and evaluate Machine Shop floor employees
- Over-see day-to-day operations of the Machine Shop and weld cell
- Ensure that work orders are completed in a timely fashion
- Maintain a safe, clean and legally compliant workplace
- Order and ensure proper stock levels of the necessary parts, tools, supplies and services
- Maintain or exceed quality expectations of our customers
- Maintain Time and Attendance for Machine shop crew.
- Troubleshoot, adjust or perform minor maintenance for any machinery that requires attention
- Train and coach employees on the safe operation of equipment in Machine Shop
- Operate various types of machinery as required
- Study blueprints and computer-aided drafting (CAD) software of products to be produced to determine programming and tooling needs
- Study and interpret engineering drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements
- Determine machining operations, the sequence in which machining operations must be carried out and the time required to finish the job to efficiently manufacture the product
- Provide assistance in planning the production cycle in order to set and achieve optimal production targets
- Operates various material handling devices for movement of parts.
- Communicates with managers, supervisors, engineers, other lead hands, production control, quality and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.
- Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment.
- Set up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision, non-repetitive machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, drilling, precision grinding and other operations
- Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools
- Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments
- May set up and program machine tools for use by machining tool operators.
- Need to perform or manage the following duties:
- Verify dimensions of machined parts or tooling using micrometers, vernier, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, co-ordinate measuring machines (CMM) or other specialized measuring instruments
- Maintain, repair and calibrate precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators, fixed gauges, height gauges and other measuring devices
- Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to supervisor
- Reinforce performance expectations according to safe work practices, ISO quality expectations and according to company policies that have been communicated to Machine Shop employees
- Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports
- Prepare QA documents, as required
- Manage new design effectively and production phase in plan, as well as, phase out of old design while incorporating a spares and replacement strategy when applicable
- Determine and discuss with supervisor any potential process improvements
- Shared responsibility for demonstrating professionalism and respect for all employees of DeZURIK
- Participate in and provide assistance with the annual physical inventory count
- Other duties as assigned.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. Post-secondary diploma or certification in a related field preferred
- Completion of a four-year apprenticeship program in tool & die, mold maker or machinist or a combination of over four years of work experience in the trade and some college or industry courses in machining
