**Overall Purpose**:
The Family Preservation Worker - Band Designate is a key member of the Community Services Team, committed to enhancing the wellbeing of Wei Wai Kum children, youth and families. This role provides advocacy, direct support and case management services, working collaboratively with families to develop strength-based and culturally grounded plans that meet their needs and goals.

As **Band Designate**, this role represents and advocates for Wei Wai Kum children and youth involved in the child welfare system, ensuring their cultural identity, community connections, and inherent rights are upheld throughout the child protection process. The Band Designate works closely with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), delegated agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure decisions reflect the best interests of the child within the context of their culture and Nation.

By fostering strong relationships with both internal departments and external partners, the Family Preservation Worker helps create coordinated, holistic supports that promote healing, preserve family unity, and enhance long-term wellness for the Wei Wai Kum community

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Accepts referrals from community support agencies, Director of Community Services, and Social Development worker for families requiring additional support.
- Prepares clients for legal proceedings by attending case conferences, ensuring they understand the purpose of court appearances, connecting them with legal counsel, and guiding them on expected courtroom conduct and procedures.
- Provides prevention services and healing-focused interventions that support the wellbeing of children, families, and individuals in both home and community settings.
- Develops individualized work plans and organizes life skills training, workshops, and other capacity-building sessions based on community needs, mental health, addictions and other supports.
- Attends community events and meetings to foster strong relationships with Wei Wai Kum members, build trust, and stay informed of evolving community priorities.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Minimum Diploma in Social Work or Child and Youth Care.Bachelor’s degree an asset.
- 3 years working within the social work type field or experience dealing with families and individuals.
- Excellent interview skills and facilitation experience, with the ability to engage individuals and families in a respectful, strength-based manner
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, case notes, and resource materials.
- Knowledge of unique and diverse traditional practices of First Nation cultures is preferred.
- Strong understanding of social, economic, political and historical concerns in Indigenous communities is preferred.

**SKILLS and ABILITIES**
- Ability to work independently and build effective interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to meet deadlines, have attention to detail and respect confidentiality.
- Strong emotional intelligence
- High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and digital management tools.
- Must have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.

**TERMS AND CONDITIONS**
- Hours of work: 28-35 hours per week
- 15-month fixed term position
- May be requested to work occasional evening or weekend
- Place of work: Wei Wai Kum Administration office
- May be required to travel to other locations reasons related to the job.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a clear Criminal Record Check.

Remuneration: $28.35-$36.75 hourly
