**Job Summary**
Sasamans Society is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual with experience working with families at risk. This unique position is based out of Sasamans Society located at 680 Head Start Crescent, Campbell River, BC., 5 days (35 hrs) per week. This position is currently full-time position. The Indigenous Outreach Family Navigator program aims to provide support and guidance to Indigenous families involved with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). Duties include but are not limited to providing Indigenous families with advocacy support and information about the child welfare process, family court process, liaise with child protection social workers and service providers while strengthening Indigenous family units.
**POSITION COMPETENCIES**
- Sound knowledge of the child welfare system and the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) or the ability to develop an understanding of this legislation quickly.
- Sound knowledge of, and experience working with MCFD/Delegated Aboriginal Agencies and Indigenous Service Organizations is an asset.
- Preference given to individual with a BSW, Child & Youth Care degree or recognized diploma and/or recognized human service diploma and demonstrated related working experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture (Indigenous ways of knowing & being) and the impact of colonization on Indigenous families and communities.
- Ability to develop strong working relationships with Indigenous communities and families.
- Experience working with Indigenous families and children at risk is an asset.
- Ability to develop strong collaborative relationships with community service providers.
- Strong facilitation skills an asset, with the ability to facilitate and lead group processes.
- Ability to work independently is essential, with the ability to develop relationship with colleagues.
- Must demonstrate clear professional boundaries and appropriate accountability measures including file/records management.
- Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution.
- Preference will be given to person of Indigenous ancestry.
- Applicant must have own vehicle and a valid driver’s licence.
- Applicant must successfully undergo a Vulnerable Criminal Record Check.
- Pursuant to section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code, preference may be given to applicants of Indigenous ancestry._
**Salary**: $26-$28 p/h
