**Responsibilities**:
The Program Coordinator II (Funded Research Risk) will ensure Western maintains compliance with stringent internal controls for the effective management of institution-level risk, and compliance as it relates to funded research activity involving humans, animals, and biosafety hazards. This role is critical to implementing and recommending improvements to processes which ensure all research activity is undertaken in accordance with institutional policies, Government/Sponsor requirements and regulations. The Program Coordinator II (Funded Research Risk) will also provide informed guidance to the research community to ensure Principal Investigators meet all ongoing requirements in the responsible conduct of research and funded award compliance at Western.
**Qualifications**:
- Education:
- 3 year University degree in a research discipline
**Experience**:
- 5 years' experience providing administrative support in a complex environment; experience with research administration preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to research relevant information and stay up to date with changing regulatory requirements and emerging risks
- In-depth knowledge of government regulations (e.g., Tri-Agency Framework for Responsible Conduct of Research, Tri-Agency Financial Management Guide, Tri-Agency Memorandum of Understanding, Personal Health Information Protection Act) preferred
- Knowledge of Human Research Ethics (Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans), Animal Research Ethics (including Canadian Council on Animal Care, Ontario Animals in Research Act), and Biosafety guidelines and policies preferred
- Knowledge of external funding agency guidelines and regulations, global or national preferred
- Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
- Excellent understanding of database use and workflow with proven accuracy in data entry
- Ability to handle details with a high-degree of accuracy and to organize and prioritize a high volume of work to meet tight timelines
- Strong organizational skills, with an ability to complete multiple tasks
- Highly professional manner with a resilient service focus, resourceful and a strong sense of accountability and initiative
- Highly collaborative with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external working groups, demonstrating tact and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to independently assess high-volumes of awarded complex research projects
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an emphasis on development of educational materials and delivering presentations
