Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is seeking an experienced, dynamic leader to fill the critical position of Assistant Vice President, School Engagement in the Learning & Public Programs team. This role supports ROM's 21st-century mission to help people understand the past, make sense of the present, and shape a shared future by creating school and teacher programs that meet the needs of the learning community and align with Ontario curriculum standards. The AVP, School Engagement will lead a team of educators, administrators, digital learning experts, and hands-on facilitators to create exceptional and engaging experiences - in-person, online, and through asynchronous learning activations. Working closely with the VP, Learning & Public Programs, the AVP, School Engagement will help guide the ROM’s learning strategy and operationalize that strategy through engagement activities. The role will supervise the School Engagement team, the Indigenous Learning & Programs team, and ROMKids camp programming.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Manage the daily operation of School Visits and Digital Learning teams. Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating directly reporting positions (full and part-time). Ensure compliance with ROM policies and practices, including departmental child protection protocols and the collective agreement. Spend time on the gallery floor.
- Develop strategy and operational plans, implement delivery, manage budgets, and maintain financial control and reporting for the three teams' programs, projects, and activities. Work with the team and leadership to meet revenue and attendance targets. Develop strategies and plans for virtual and in-person learning experiences for teachers and students.
- Provide strategic direction and support for managers of Indigenous Learning & Programs and ROMKids, including learning deliverables, budgeting, programming, evaluation, and attendance oversight.
- Lead the review of existing educational resources and the development of new learning assets in collaboration with the VP, Learning & Public Programs, in accordance with ROM 21st Century Museum and the strategic objectives of the Engagement team. Support Gallery and Exhibition teams with the development of new learning assets for temporary and permanent galleries and exhibitions.
- Work closely with various managers and managing directors to ensure that departmental activities are efficiently coordinated. Liaise with external departments, contractors, and consultants to ensure that Learning programs are properly supported.
- Develop School Visits offerings in alignment with the provincial curriculum, working with stakeholders such as the Ministry of Education and Ontario School Boards. Ensure the quality and appeal of education programs for teachers, students, and the general public.
- Collaborate with Education Sales, Visitor Engagement, and Marketing teams to effectively promote School Visits.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- A minimum of five (5) years as an educator and manager with extensive experience in facilitating learning with objects in informal learning environments. Experience managing in a union environment is an asset.
- A minimum of four (4) years of experience in education design for 21st-century skills, including multimodal learning design (digital, in-person, hands-on, and asynchronous learning).
- A minimum of four (4) years of teaching experience (formal or informal) plus four (4) years of supervisory experience in an educational environment.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in managing hands-on or interactive learning experiences.
- Experience managing a team of at least five (5) members.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in managing digital learning programming.
- Proven ability to manage programs or teams with a budget exceeding $500,000 per year.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in both leadership and curriculum development. Experience in educational design for vulnerable learners is a strong asset.
- Understanding of project management and accountability-based program management.
- Experience in evaluation and assessment of programs, including outcomes and/or impact-based analysis and reporting of program objectives.
- Strong organizational, leadership, conflict management, and training skills.
- Ability in revenue generation, development, control of budgets, and financial reporting.
- Proven skills in effective promotion of educational programming.
- Effective oral communication and public relations skills with a strong client service orientation.
