The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a charity offering opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership. The West End YMCA are one of nine full service health and fitness centres across the Greater Toronto area. The Centre provides a full range of services and community programs to more than 6,000 members, including children, youth and adults, who represent the diversity of Toronto and its communities.
Reporting to the General Manager, the Programs Director will be an integral part of the YMCA senior leadership team, playing a leadership role in implementing standards of Service Excellence to ensure the delivery of high-quality service to members. The HF Programs Director provides leadership to a team of staff and volunteers who must deliver high quality programs and services to members, focusing on the achievement of their personal health and wellness goals
**In this role, you will**:
- Plan, promote and implement all adult programs offered by the Health and Fitness facility, including Group Fitness, Individual Conditioning and Personal Training and Adult Rec Sports, with the aim to increase participation and foster member retention
- Ensure Programs and services are delivered with high quality, meet standards and expectations of the YMCA; conduct regular observation and evaluation of programs; administer self-audits using YMCA tools
- Provide significant hands on direct program leadership to a variety of program areas and lead by example, building relationships with members
- Supervise adult programs staff: including recruitment and selection, training and development scheduling work, acknowledging contributions; performance management including discipline
- Recruit, develop and retain a team of YMCA Volunteers to deliver Group Fitness classes, with a focus on Y Movement Lab class (60% of program offerings)
- Develop and monitor departmental budget and maintains accountability, responsibility and control for the departmental fiscal goals; achieve Member Retention Targets and stated Priority SAM standards and satisfaction results
- Purchase equipment and supplies needed for Adult Programs; adhere to purchasing standards; communicate with Program equipment team for repairs and equipment replacement for conditioning room equipment
- Lead the Aquafit program, including recruiting, developing, certifying and retaining Volunteers Provide leadership and support as a member of the Centre senior staff team
- Act as an effective Service Leader as required, demonstrating maturity and sound decision making on behalf of the General Manager
- Participate in task groups, special assignments and opportunities that further the Association mission, vision and strategic initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
**You bring**:
- Diploma or Degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education or related field
- Group Fitness and/or Personal Training certification
- Demonstrated strong leadership skills developed through 2 to 3 years progressively responsible experience in a supervisory role with health and fitness professionals; ability to encourage, motivate staff and volunteers, acknowledge and appreciate contributions
- Experience developing and leading staff training: including coaching and evaluation
- Recruiting and training volunteers in the respective department
- Current NLS Certification an asset
- Proficiency with computer software including Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Well developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
- Excellent written communication skills
- Excellent understanding of diversity, inclusion and equity including the ability to identify and address barriers in Health & Safety programs, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into program design
- Flexibility regarding assigned hours of work, including days, evenings and weekends
