**The Wîcihîtowin Program will work on re-establishing connections as a basis for holistic and integrated services and supports. This new and innovative project will consist of an Indigenous-focused urban healing space with a primary focus on prevention and recovery supports related to mental health and addictions, through the implementation of outreach, inter-sectoral services, and the Wîcihîtowin Healing in Community Program.**:
**The Position**:
The Wîcihîtowin Peer Support Worker, under the direction of the STC Health Centre Manager, is an individual who has their own lived experience of having a substance use disorder/addiction or has closely supported someone who has. The Peer Support Workers’ primary role is to empower people to make choices related to improving their health through provision of non-judgmental, experience-based guidance and support.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide flexible and tailored support based on each individual need, including advocating for their wellbeing.
- Conduct outreach activities to homes, shelters, and a variety of other settings.
- Work with individuals to build relationships and ensure they are connected with local resources.
- Provide information and help navigate services and opportunities available to individuals within the community.
- Provide information on individual advocacy, self-help, recovery/wellness, crisis planning and prevention, and empowerment tools.
- Collaborate with individuals, promote self-advocacy, and support individuals to advocate for themselves.
- Provide peer support services reflective of the diverse needs of the individual.
- Self-reflection, identification, authentic listening, and communication of one’s own direct experiences, for the benefit of the person they are supporting, relating to issues such as: living with addictions challenges, personal experiences of recovery, Issues stemming from substance use, for example, housing, vocation, education, finances, physical health, and relationships.
- Utilizes their lived experience with addiction challenges as they support individuals in determining their unique goals and objectives.
- Provides a source of encouragement and hope, partnering with individuals as they move towards their self-determined goals.
- Maintain high-level confidentiality standards.
- Builds peer relationships with individuals, supports them in identifying their strengths and in making choices that promote wellbeing and safety for individuals.
- Works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive services and support to individuals.
- Assists in developing recovery goals and plans with individuals.
- Assists in planning, and implementation of peer-based programs and activities.
- Assists in the planning and implementation of services that promote recovery and wellbeing.
- Distributes information relevant to harm reduction and enhancing well-being.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with evaluation and funding agreement standards.
- Attend and participate in project staff meetings.
- Participate in STC Accreditation and maintain best practices and quality improvement.
- Adhere to STC policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as defined and assigned by the reporting Director or designate on an as and when required basis.

**Education and Experience**:

- Completed Grade 12 education will be considered an asset.
- Self-identify as an individual who has lived experience with addictions or has closely supported someone that has.
- Personal experience in recovery from addiction challenge(s), and ability to draw upon wellness and recovery in providing intentional peer support.
- Training related to trauma-informed support and tools are preferred assets.
- Knowledge of the political, social, and economic objectives of the Saskatoon Tribal Council and of the Dakota, Cree, and Saulteaux cultures will be considered an asset.

**Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities**:

- Understanding of issues of mental health/addictions and homelessness.
- Direct experiential knowledge of community supports and services is an asset.
- Demonstrate empathy, compassion, and communication skills.
- Ability to collect relevant data, and submit reports as required in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Sensitivity towards cultural differences with particular emphasis on First Nations and Metis People.
- Knowledge of Indigenous traditions and culture.
- Participation in a cultural community, ceremonial community, or spiritual life is considered an asset.

**Other Conditions**:

- Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and meet STC’s insurance requirements;
- Must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC) with vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment;
