About the Role
The Human Resources Manager - Canada provides strategic and hands-on HR leadership across the Canadian operations, serving as a trusted advisor to business and site leaders. This role is responsible for leading all aspects of HR delivery in Canada, including employee and labour relations, workforce planning, talent development, performance management, and employee engagement. The HR Manager ensures consistent and compliant HR practices that align with both local legislation and North America-wide HR strategies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead all aspects of labour relations in Canada, including collective bargaining preparation, negotiations, contract implementation, and interpretation.
- Partner with union representatives and business leaders to maintain constructive, collaborative labour-management relationships that support operational stability.
- Manage the grievance and arbitration process, ensuring timely, fair, and compliant resolutions; identify and analyze trends and recommend proactive solutions.
- Advise managers on performance management, employee development, and contract administration within unionized environments.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Canadian HR team to ensure consistent, compliant, and high-quality HR service delivery.
- Oversee Canadian payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all provincial and federal payroll, benefits, and tax requirements.
- Support and implement HR programs and initiatives, including employee engagement, inclusion & diversity, leadership development, and succession planning.
- Lead or support workplace investigations, ensuring fair, consistent, and confidential resolution of issues.
- Partner with leaders on compensation reviews, performance management, and talent planning to ensure equity and alignment with company guidelines.
- Support full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and training initiatives to strengthen organizational capability and retention.
- Collaborate with HR colleagues across North America on shared initiatives, compliance requirements, and process improvements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support business and people objectives.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Professional HR designation (e.g., CHRP, CHRL, or CPHR) strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in a unionized environment.
- Strong understanding of HR business partnership, organizational effectiveness, and workforce planning.
- Advanced knowledge of Canadian labour and employment legislation, employment standards, and unionized workplace practices.
- Proven experience supporting collective bargaining, grievance management, and contract administration.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and advise leaders on employee relations, labour relations, performance management, and career development.
- Proven experience managing and developing HR or cross-functional teams, including setting goals, coaching, and performance management.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and provide actionable insights.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems; Dayforce experience preferred.
- High degree of discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Flexible and adaptable, capable of managing both strategic priorities and hands-on operational work.
- Willingness to travel within Canada (up to 25%) and work flexible hours during negotiations or peak activity periods.
