Wireless Device Certification Specialist
Department: Wireless Engineering (CTIO)
Reporting to the Manager Core Network, within the Wireless Engineering group, the Wireless Device certification Specialist is responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of all wireless device testing for Cogeco’s mobility product. The Wireless Device certification specialist will be part of the wireless engineering group and will ensure that mobile devices work properly on Cogeco’s mobile network.
Responsibilities
- Define and document the overall testing strategy for mobile device testing and certification.
- Define and document the device certification process for all OEM devices, including how major and minor software upgrades are tested.
- Develop, and execute effective test plans for mobile certification to ensure that devices conform to all relevant standards and will work properly on Cogeco’s network
- Coordinate all device testing activities, in terms of planning the various tasks for preparation, ensuring proper coordination with the product and engineering teams.
- Develop data driven test strategies relative to OEM reputation, strengths and historical test results
- Evaluate mobile devices via lab testing, device / network logs capture and log analysis manually and through post processing tools
- Capture any device issue discovered during testing, including any device-specific limitation, highlighting step by step process for reproduction, and defining the impact of the issue to the end user
- Provide daily and weekly compilation of various written and verbal reports on the results of testing - Communicate and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure that critical issues identified during testing are resolved, through proper coordination with the product team and the OEMs.
- Drive the selection of the proper test tools for device certification.
- Ensure that solutions adhere to defined standards (3GPP, GSMA, etc.) and best practices and/or assist in the development of these standards and best practices.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment, under pressure, with strict deadlines, both as an individual contributor and team player.
- Participates in knowledge transfer, documentation and information sharing while staying abreast of new technology/technical areas.
Work Experience:
- 5 years experience with a 3G/LTE/5G mobile operator.
- 2-3 years experience with mobile device testing.
- Experienced in capturing and analyzing device logs - QXDM / QCAT, MTK etc
- Experience with LTE/5G networks and call flows.
- Experience with Mobile Working Groups (GSMA NSX, GSMA TSG, PTCRB)
Qualifications:
- University degree in Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or similar, or equivalent experience
- Excellent knowledge of 5G / IMS / LTE wireless technology.
- Detailed knowledge of LTE/5G protocols & call flows
- General working knowledge in a Cloud Native environment, with technologies such as AWS/GCP/Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, OpenStack, VMWare, KVM or EKS.
- Autonomous and well-organized.
- Good teamwork & interpersonal skills.
- Good knowledge of the Canadian wireless market.
- Fluent in English and French (spoken and written) required collaborating with stakeholders in Quebec, Ontario, and across the United States.
