**In-House Financial Controller**

**Salary**: Starting at $85,000

The Nova Scotia SPCA is actively seeking to hire an In-House Financial Controller to enhance the financial reporting, budgeting, auditing, and payroll processes of our multifaceted organization. 

The Nova Scotia SPCA is a registered charity dedicated to aiding companion animals in need throughout Nova Scotia. Thanks to the generous support of our donors and clients, we assist nearly 15,000 pets annually through animal welfare efforts, innovative programs, and rehoming initiatives. Our organization manages complex accounting requirements across various business units, including animal shelters, veterinary hospitals, and thrift stores, all of which generate revenue to support our mission.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Prepare and coordinate financial statements, including balance sheets, invoices, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. 
- Provide comprehensive financial updates to senior managers by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting relevant data points. 
- Manage the budgeting process and forecasting activities. 
- Assist senior leadership by overseeing the work of staff across multiple departments to ensure adherence to internal accounting processes. 
- Participate in the training of relevant staff. 
- Ensure compliance with regulations, including tax planning and adherence. 
- Develop and monitor business performance metrics. 
- Assess current accounting operations, offer recommendations for improvement, and implement new processes. 
- Develop and maintain internal controls. 
- Oversee regulatory reporting. 
- Coordinate activities with external auditors. 
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business, accounting, or related field.
- Five or more years of professional accounting experience.
- Three or more years of experience as a senior-level accounting or financial management would be preferred.
- Professional accounting designation, such as CPA or CA, would be preferred.
- Expert knowledge and experience with SAGE 300. 
- Experience in managing payroll, with a focus on streamlining accounting processes.
- Expertise in Crystal Reports ensuring financial software and system interoperability. 
- Proven track record of successful financial project management. 
- Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis. 
- Working knowledge of tax regulations and compliance reporting.
- Understanding of charitable tax regulations would be considered an asset.
- Familiarity and comfort with delivering comprehensive financial updates in meetings and presentations.
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills.

**Hours of Work**:
Work responsibilities require a 40 hours per week plus additional overtime as required fulfilling the duties associated with the position.
