**Position Summary**:
The Community Events Coordinator is responsible for organizing large community events, and the day-to-day support of the Family Services team. The Community Events Coordinator will work with the Family Services team to understand what events need to be organized and will take on the responsibility of creating a budget and work plan and presenting it to the Director of Family Services. The Community Events Coordinator responsibilities include but are not limited to prep work, organizing all parties that need to be present and help ensure the event is executed smoothly. The individual in this position will be skilled in creating work plans, budgeting, and hosting events. With this position, the department will be able to plan farther in advance than before and will be able to roll out more event-based programming to support the wellbeing of the nation.

Another aspect of the job will include helping the rest of the Family Services Team with their day-to-day operations and ensuring that tasks that are completed so in a timely fashion. This person will help ensure that workspaces are organized and well-maintained as well as any programming materials are within date, are properly labelled and first in / first out policies are maintained.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

Events Coordinator
- Getting Direction from the Director of Family Services regarding which events will need to be planned. Referrals for events can also come from the Family Services Team members as long as the event is approved by the Director.
- Research and compile information regarding events that the department would like to run.
- Compile and complete work plans and comprehensive budgets that will be submitted to the Director of Family Services at least 2 weeks prior to the event.
- Creating menus, completing all the shopping, and organizing the prep work and cooking of the menus. Ensuring to utilize any supplies or food that the team already has purchased.
- Liaising with service providers, professionals and others that may be hired for the events and negotiating services that will be provided.
- Complete reports after events have finished regarding attendance, budget, feedback etc and submit to the Director of Family Services
- Provide assistance to other departments on an as needed basis and with approval from the Director of Family Services.
- Ensure event spaces & workspaces are properly sanitized and cleaned at the completion of the event.
- Be on call for breakfast programming if necessary.
- Organize and label programming materials in the workspaces that belong to the family services team.
- Create an inventory of programming materials that belong to the family services team.
- Ensure that food being used by the team is of date and is used on a first in/ first out system by making sure to check if open items are labelled and dated correctly.
- Assist Family Services Team Members with their programming if applicable.
- Facilitate any programming required.
- Providing transportation on an approved basis
- Completing training as required.
- Complete any tasks required under direction of the Director of Family Services

**KEY COMPETENCIES**:

- Strong willingness to incorporate culture into programming.
- Knowledge of the barriers and problems that Indigenous children, families, and community face.
- Knowledge of Quatsino First Nations social structure, traditions, and culture values.
- Ability to manage and prioritize time and work in a high-traffic environment with distractions and interruptions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external individuals.
- Ability to listen, communicate and consult colleagues.
- Solid reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Conflict resolution skills

**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**:

- 2 or more years experience in Support Work or equivalent and desire to work in a Family Services setting preferred.
- Two years of recent and successful employment experience with social services preferred.
- Current First Aid, and Food Safe Certificates are considered a strong asset.
- Experience working within first nation communities is also considered an asset.
- Current class 5 license in good
