Yonge North York Business Improvement Area (BIA) serves 1600 member businesses and commercial property owners in the area along Yonge between the 401 and Bishop Avenue. Our vision is to be the preferred destination in North Toronto for businesses, residents, visitors and workers to live, work and play. Assisting our members and delivering relevant support is a priority.

**Reports to**: Executive Director and Marketing & Economic Development Manager

**Key Accountabilities**
- Integral to orchestrating a variety of community events, including popular summer food festivals, cultural happenings, and winter holiday celebrations.
- Actively engages the public and works collaboratively with local businesses to promote participation, with a special focus on newcomers, youth, and seniors, aligning with local priorities.
- The diverse cultural backdrop of the area is showcased through these events, offering a variety of experiences to the community. In addition to supporting seasonal festivals, the planner is tasked with developing new event concepts that contribute to local economic growth and specifically cater to targeted groups, in line with both local and national priorities.
- Involves a range of responsibilities, from creating promotional materials, acting as an ambassador for the organization at events and managing logistics to implementing media and marketing efforts. Essential to this position is the ability to work weekends and communicate effectively in one or more languages prevalent in the community, such as Korean, Mandarin, or Cantonese, or Farsi, enhancing inclusivity and engagement with various cultural groups.
- This role demands a unique blend of creativity, organizational skills, and adept communication skills, which are essential for addressing the local community while also fulfilling broader national objectives of inclusivity and economic development.

**Who You Are**

**Core Competencies**:

- Relevant post-secondary education; or a relevant combination of skills/qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- Technologically adept and able to learn new software
- Excellent MS Office, primarily Excel and Word; Google Suite; and Zoom skills required
- Excellent interpersonal skills, customer service and persuasion
- Able to work with mínimal supervision or in a team
- Able to work flexible hours to accommodate meeting attendance including some evenings and/or weekends
- Able to work in person and online

**Bonus Skills (Not Required)**:

- Excellent verbal and written Mandarin, Korean, Cantonese OR Farsi

**Hours**:Contract (9 weeks); 30 hours/week; Possibility of Extension until Late August

**Wage**:$19/hour (semi-monthly pay periods)

**Other Requirements**:
Able to follow COVID-19 protocols when required including wearing a mask. Ability to interact positively with multiple individuals. Ability to traverse as a pedestrian and via TTC (fare provided) to visit member businesses in our area. Working home office wifi required in case of periodic remote work. Ability to lift 30lbs to assist with event set-up and prep.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract, Internship / Co-op
Contract length: 9-13 weeks

Pay: $19.00 per hour

- Weekends as needed

**Experience**:

- Event Planning or Operations: 1 year (preferred)
- Customer Service: 1 year (preferred)
