**Purpose**:
Under the general direction and in consultation with the Manager, Co-op Program & Business Partnerships, the Co-op Coordinator contributes to the success of the Lassonde Co-op Program by providing superior service to students and employers. This is achieved through the effective and proactive identification, promotion, and provision of services that connect student academic and curricular experiential education needs with employer personnel requirements to create mutually valuable opportunities.
The Co-op Coordinator is responsible for the effective delivery of Workplace Integrated Learning (WIL) preparation training and support of undergraduate students registered in the Co-operative Education program at the Lassonde School of Engineering. With a service excellence mindset, the incumbent provides information to students regarding the co-operative education program, guidance on self-assessment and making informed career decisions, creating, and marketing their personal brand and on-the job success strategies, and supports their transition from studies to work and back to studies again. The incumbent develops, organizes, and facilitates a variety of workshops with an EDI (equity, diversity, & inclusion) lens, including those for the promotion of the program, and for purposes of work-force preparation. The role uses labour market expertise along with career readiness strategies to advise, coach, and support students in the Co-op Program. Additionally, the Co-op Coordinator supports student success on their work-term, conducting site-visits, ensuring evaluation and feedback loops are complete. The Co-op Coordinator contributes to the continuous refinement of the co-op program through assessment and administration of the co-operative education recruitment cycle to students and employer partners.
The Co-op Coordinator supports the Manager, Co-op Program & Business Partnerships, in the strategic outreach/effective relationship building with a wide variety of program partners and participants, including community, employers, alumni, students, staff, and faculty to maximize employers' and students' participation in the program. This role supports the vision, mission, values, and strategic direction of the Lassonde School of Engineering and contributes to the goals and objectives of the School and the University.
**Education**:
University Degree in a related field (such as Social Sciences, Business, Science/Engineering) plus a post graduate diploma or certification as Career Development Practitioner, Career & Work Counsellor, or a related field (such as Social Services Worker) is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience, or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.
**Experience**:
Three (3) years progressive and recent experience working with students/clients in a fast-paced post-secondary co-operative education, internship, experiential education program, or in a business or career education setting performing job placement, employment coaching, advising, and training, or a related function is required. Previous experience must include job development or employer outreach, demonstrating ability to develop partners to provide job opportunities. This role requires experience coordinating effective, mutually beneficial relationships with a variety of program participants and partners (employers, community, alumni, students, staff, and faculty) and experience coordinating and implementing employment or work-integrated learning opportunities for students/clients. Training and/or experience in student affairs, career development, student career advising, and supervising volunteers is an asset.
**Skills**:
Knowledge of the following: labour market trends, employment legislation, employer hiring practices, employability skills, job search and career development theories, techniques, and strategies.
Strong knowledge of Experiential Education and Co-operative Education as a Work Integrated Learning model.
Working knowledge of career or experiential education CRM such as Orbis, Symplicity or equivalent.
Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with students, faculty, administration, employers, and the community at large via a variety of communications methods, including social media, and through networking/relationship building.
Efficient customer service orientation and oral and written communication skills are required to build, cultivate, and maintain internal and external program partnerships.
Highly developed interpersonal, influencing and marketing skills are required to promote Lassonde students and to recruit employers to participate in Lassonde's Co-op Program.
