**Community Engagement Coordinator**

Part Time: 24 hours per week

Starting Rate: $28.84 per hour

The British Columbia Schizophrenia Society (BCSS) has a vision where those affected by schizophrenia and other serious mental illness receive effective treatment and support, and family members are an essential partner within the mental health system. Our mission is to support families affected by schizophrenia and other serious mental illness in British Columbia through education advocacy, and research. BCSS was founded in 1982 and is a charitable society with a provincial office located in Vancouver, BC.

**Community Outreach Coordinator Position**

This position, within the Communications and Marketing Team, is responsible for building and maintaining connections between BCSS and the broader community. This position will support the communication of fundraising and revenue generation endeavours and facilitate the growth of our social media communities. The Coordinator will use an appropriate mix of outgoing personality, creativity, strong writing and verbal communication skills to grow awareness of BCSS and our programs. The Coordinator plans and implements outreach strategies, develops relationships with individuals, businesses, and other organizations, and promotes the organization's mission and initiatives. The Coordinator also assists with events, collects and analyzes data, and reports on the effectiveness of outreach programs.

This position reports to the Communications and Marketing Manager.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Plan and implement outreach strategies**: Identify opportunities for growth of awareness; develop and execute plans to reach target audiences and build community engagement.
- **Communications**: Assists in the development of social media content, writing captions, replying to comments, enganging potential new followers.
- **Represent the organization**: Act as a spokesperson and liaison for the organization in online video posts and community interactions; correspond with external contacts. Help advocate for BCSS families and caregivers of people with a severe mental illness within the province’s health care networks and political environment.
- **Plan and run activations**: Organize and coordinate interactive table displays at trade shows or conferences to promote the organization's mission and build relationships.
- **Build relationships**: Develop and maintain relationships with individuals, businesses, and other organizations in the community.
- **Collect and analyze data**: Track outreach efforts, measure their effectiveness, and identify areas for improvement.
- **Report on outreach efforts**: Prepare reports on the progress and impact of outreach programs.
- **Work within budget**: Determine costs and monitor spending for outreach activities.
- **Collaborate with other departments**: Work with other departments within the organization to ensure alignment of outreach efforts.
- **Follow all BCSS policies** and procedures to ensure safety and risk management.
- **Attend the AGM** and any other societal or staff meetings as required.
- **Any other applicable duties as requested** by the Director, Operations and Programs or the CEO.

**Education and Experience**:

- 3-5 years of experience in marketing/communications/public relations/fundraising, including social media management and or related experience
- Post-secondary degree or diploma required in a related field (marketing, communications, public relations, etc.)
- Experience and education in writing to diverse audiences and making complex topics understandable to a larger group would be an asset.
- Experience with social media management tools
- Experience writing content for social media, blog posts, newsletters, and other channels
- Experience engaging and building community partnerships through digital platforms, letters, in-person and by telephone
- Knowledge of mental illness and its impact on family members
- Knowledge of the BC mental health system and resources for families is an asset
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Canva, and Zoom

**Compensation and Benefits**:

- Pay range: $28.84 to $32.64 per hour
- 4 weeks paid vacation to start
- A comprehensive benefits package, including extended health care and Municipal Pension Plan (MPP) for employees working 20 or more hours per week after 3 months of employment
