The purpose of this position is to lead implementation of the PEI component of the Federally funded 2Billion Tree Program. This includes working with the agricultural sector, watershed groups and private landowners to secure planting sites, developing site-specific planting plans, developing and implementing post-planting monitoring and assessment, tracking and reporting Program finances and outcomes and reporting on these to PEI and Canada.
**Duties will include but are not limited to**:
- Promote the 2Billion Tree program to stakeholders and the general public;
- Develop site-specific tree planting plans, where needed and enter into Agreements with the owners of secured planting sites to be planted under this Program, prior to planting;
- Coordinate with Program partners and planting contractors to ensure approved sites are planted and reporting requirements are met;
- Coordinate with Private Forest Technicians to have eligible planted sites enrolled in the Forest Enhancement Program, as appropriate, and to ensure no duplication of tree planting efforts;
- Forecast species and numbers of trees needed for this Program for future years, and coordinate with the J. Frank Gaudet Tree Nursery and Private Land Supervisor to ensure required production;
- Maintain accurate records of the locations, numbers and species of trees planted under this Program;
- Implement and maintain accurate records of post-planting assessments to confirm planting was completed and met minimum quality standards as outlined in the Forest Management Manual;
- Maintain accurate accounting of Federal, Provincial and non-governmental expenditures related to this Program;
- Prepare quarterly budget forecasts for this Program, and briefings/briefing notes for Senior Management as required;
- Work with the Forests, Fish and Wildlife team to provide forest fire suppression;
- Other related duties.
**Minimum Qualifications**:
- Diploma from a recognized Forest Technical School or Natural Resources Management program.
- Considerable experience in woodlot management including applied silviculture, forest education, and record management.
- Experience in project management.
- Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered.
- Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
- Strong interpersonal, planning, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Excellent conflict resolution skills.
- Good skill in database management, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation programs.
- Ability to use GPS and GIS technology.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in remote locations.
- Must have valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Must have or be willing to acquire ICS 300 certification.
- Must meet Divisional Fire Fitness Standard as part of employment conditions.
- Meet physical fitness standard on an annual basis.
**Other Qualifications**:
- Experience working with the agricultural sector, non-governmental groups and/or municipalities would be an asset.
- Experience in forest fire suppression would be an asset.
- Experience in contract management would be an asset
- Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
