The purpose of this position is to implement and coordinate the COMPASS Research Program in Prince Edward Island. The COMPASS Research Program is a longitudinal, multi-level research study in which schools and their students are research participants. The role leads and guides the planning, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the COMPASS Research Program in school boards and schools across the province and is the primary liaison to schools and boards, government departments and advisory boards, community stakeholders and partners, and the research team at University of Waterloo. The position advises two government departments (Education and Early Years, and Health and Wellness) and senior leadership staff in planning, implementation, reporting and knowledge mobilization activities of the COMPASS Research Program. The position also supports project management activities focused on youth health behaviours and policies and programs that advance health promotion in PEI.
**Duties will include but are not limited to**:
- Lead, coordinate, and implement the COMPASS Research Program in Prince Edward Island;
- Key point of contact for data collection implementation, acting as the liaison between the COMPASS research team (University Waterloo) and school representatives, and providing detailed advice, process guidance, and overall client support throughout the entire data collection cycle;
- Recruit school boards and schools for participation in the COMPASS Research Program through proactive outreach and networking efforts to achieve optimal participation rates in the province;
- Plan, organize and prepare data collection materials for schools participating in the COMPASS Research Program;
- Provide oversight for all incoming data; ensuring completion, coordinating deadlines, and ensuring the integrity and security of the data;
- Provide leadership and project management expertise in research activities and in the development and implementation of policies, programs, guidelines, and processes to advance health promotion in PEI;
- Lead and manage day-to-day operations and communication for the COMPASS Research Program in PEI;
- Liaise with legal counsel to raise awareness about the research program and ensure appropriate legal factors/legislation pertaining to research are considered;
- Represent the province on the national COMPASS team;
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and analyses on issues, trends, policies and system directions for the purpose of informing legislative changes, policy and program improvements, and implementation of new approaches and strategies in chronic disease prevention;
- Using effective communication strategies, engage schools and school boards, government departments, and community stakeholders in the COMPASS Research Program and build collaborative relationships to improve youth health behaviors across the province;
- Collaborate with local and national partners to design and implement the COMPASS Research Program in PEI;
- Serve as primary contact for the program and support Steering Committee members and senior government officials in communication activities by providing briefing notes, data analysis, reports, and media messages;
- Prepare and deliver presentations to various audiences (parents, school staff, school and board administrators, department staff and senior officials, community organizations), in person and virtually, about the COMPASS Research Program and results;
- Develop communication and knowledge translation tools (e.g. website content, social media messaging, infographics, fact sheets, etc.) to explain the research results so they are easily understood among various audiences;
- Responsible for monitoring and evaluating the research program and reporting regularly to the University of Waterloo research team, Provincial Steering Committee, and Government staff/officials;
- Lead, resource and chair the PEI COMPASS Research Program Steering Committee as well as other program/project working groups through schedule of meetings, setting agendas, documenting minutes, following up on actions, and providing other ad hoc support as needed (e.g. research, presentations, reports, etc.);
