CP2: $5,303.39 to $6,567.57 bi-weekly ( 138,418 - $171,413/year)

The Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) prosecutes persons charged with Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and provincial statute offences. The ACPS promotes safe communities by vigorously prosecuting cases involving serious and violent crime and working with individuals and organizations in the community to identify and implement improved and alternative approaches to the administration of criminal justice. In addition, the ACPS develops criminal law policy for the province and supports criminal law consultation with other levels of government.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Are you looking for a great opportunity to provide support for the prosecution of criminal and provincial offences? **The Alberta Crown Prosecution Service has opportunities available for Crown Prosecutor positions within the Bail unit.**
**Your duties include**:
- Acting as counsel at first instance bail hearings before the Hearing Office:
- Reviewing and screening files for positions on bail, bail revocation, detention, missing information and accompanying supplementary orders.
- Reviewing documentary evidence, advising police on required information/documents and replacement charges.
- Working as part of a team of prosecutors bringing accused individuals before the Justice of the Peace for a meaningful appearance as soon as possible but with a common goal of no later than 24 hours after arrest.
- Conducting resolution discussions, recommending of pleas and conducting sentencings of matters within the jurisdiction of a Justice of the Peace where appropriate.
- Following up with stakeholders when issues arise.
- Conducting legal research, writing and presentation.
- Preparing recommendations for bail review or extraordinary remedies (writs) where warranted.
- Timely reporting of issues to the Team Lead, Deputy Chief Prosecutor, Chief Prosecutor.
- Advising investigating agencies of results where required.
- Appearing in court.

**Qualifications**:
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD)
**Crown Prosecutor** **1** 0- 3 years related experience
**Crown Prosecutor** **2** 4-12 years related experience
- An active member or eligible for full membership with the Law Society of Alberta.
- Good knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and processes specifically relating to Bail.
**Assets**
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe, Weslaw and CanLii would be considered an **Asset**.
For Law degrees obtained outside Canada, proof of accreditation from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) is **required.**
