Organizational Unit - University of Victoria -> Faculty of Law - Location - University of Victoria - Victoria, BC V8W 2Y2 CA (Primary) - Posting Close Date - 4 February 2025 - Please note that positions will close at 4 p.m. on the closing date. - FTE - 1.0 - Salary Grade - $72,242.00 - $93,951.00 - Additional Posting Information - N/A - Salary posted will be pro-rated based on FTE and achieved as per the collective agreement, if applicable. - Classification - SG10 - Start Date - 3/10/2025 - End Date - 4/10/2026 - Employee Group: - PEA - Term - # of Hires Needed - 1 - Category - Communications/Public Relations - About this Opportunity UVic Law is one of Canada's leading law schools, known for the strength of our academic programs, approach to experiential learning and our commitment to community engagement and social justice. **_Possible temporary career secondment opportunity for another PEA member._** **_*This position is eligible for a Hybrid Work Arrangement*_** **The salary range for this position is**: **- Recruitment range: $72,242- $79,650** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement. **- Performance range: starting salary to max of $93,951** is available through annual performance increases. - Job Summary **Mandate**: Reporting to the Dean, the Communications Officer develops and executes strategic communications and engagement plans, products, and events in support of UVic Law’s strategic directions with a clear objective to raise the profile of UVic Law’s research, teaching, and student achievements. **Objectives**: - Create and execute a distinctive communications and branding strategy that aligns with UVic Law’s specific goals and identity, while ensuring compliance with central university standards. - Work with Law Admissions and Recruitment to plan, write and design compelling recruitment brochures and marketing assets to attract prospective students and raise the profile of UVic Law. - Partner with Law Development on projects that enhance alumni relationships and strengthen community connections, including regularly writing articles, creating newsletters, and sharing updates about UVic Law’s achievements, events, and opportunities. - Engage in strategic planning and collaborate with directors, staff, and faculty members to develop and implement a comprehensive website strategy. Create and optimize content that achieves high engagement and effectively supports UVic Law’s goals and initiatives. This position supports programs, initiatives and events hosted by UVic Law that may take place in the evenings or on the weekends and requires the ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required. - Job Requirements This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field plus a minimum of five (5) years of communications experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. **Knowledge, skills, and abilities include**: - Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment. - Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating communications plans and materials for various audiences. - Demonstrated media relations experience and the ability to develop strong relationships with news media. - Demonstrated experience developing and implementing promotional plans in support of complex or multi-year projects. - Experience in website and social media management. - Strong communication skills, with demonstrated expertise in research, writing, and editing for a variety of purposes and audiences. - Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, make decisions independently, be self-motivated and consistently meet deadlines. - Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. - Experience in maintaining confidential and sensitive information. - Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and tailor communication style for different audiences and situations. - Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. - Understanding of the principles of design in print and multimedia materials and how to work effectively within established organizational design structures. **Assets or Preferences**: - Experience with post-secondary institutions. - Experience with Adobe Creative Suite. - Event coordination experience. **Territory Acknowledgement**:We acknowledge and respect the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Esquimalt) Peoples on whose territory the university stands, and the Lək̓ʷəŋən and WSÁNEĆ Peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day. **What UVic Offers**:To learn more click here.
