**The opportunity**:
The University of Manitoba is looking for a Community Engagement Coordinator. This position will be responsible for overseeing the NCTR Archives’ interactions and relationship building with Indigenous communities, Survivors, and intergenerational Survivors as they relate to missing children and unmarked burials. This includes but is not limited to facilitating activities related to the repatriation of names of children who died at residential school to their families and home communities. The Community Engagement Coordinator work with a small team of community engagement liaisons to develop a plan and implement the plan in a way that supports community-led efforts to further the development of the National Student Memorial Register and the development of the National Burial Register.
**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:
THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED FOR INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES ONLY. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER/RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATION, METIS AND/OR INUIT).
- Undergraduate degree in a related discipline required.
- Three years’ experience working with Indigenous organizations, communities, peoples, Elders, Residential School Survivors is required.
- Experience working directly with a Director or Senior Staff level required.
- Proven experience with Indigenous organizations, Survivors, Elders and diverse communities is essential.
- Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures is essential.
- Experience planning events in a community setting is essential.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Indigenous cultures is essential.
- Public speaking is an asset.
- Experience working within an archival or related academic library environment is an asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, Elders, alumni, Indigenous communities, community organizations, and the public required.
- Must possess a demonstrated ability to work independently and accurately under pressure.
- Must have exceptional decision-making and interpersonal skills including diplomacy and tact.
- Must have a demonstrated ability to deal with high demand and/or stressful contacts.
- Must have a strong work ethic and be willing to take the initiative to solve problems and learn new tasks.
- Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and using intermediate features.
- Organizational, time-management skills and the ability to work effectively under deadline required.
- Problem solving and conflict resolution skills preferred.
- High degree of analytical thinking preferred.
- Knowledge of Indigenous languages is preferred.
- Attention to detail is essential.
- Well-developed knowledge of general office practices are essential.
- Demonstrated ability to train and supervise the work of others required.
- Demonstrated ability to work with others is required.
- Ability to think analytically, anticipate and resolve problems, exercise sound judgment, and carry out duties with tact and diplomacy in a confidential environment.
- Ability to performs tasks quickly, independently and undertake work as directed by the Head of Archives and the Senior Archivist.
- Knowledge of Indigenous history in Canada, including Residential School history is required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
- Ability to speak French and/or an Indigenous language an asset.
- Strong relationship with Indigenous communities.
- Knowledge of University policies/procedures would be an asset.
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties as assigned, which may include moderate to heavy lifting of 2 kg to 10 kg, standing/sitting for long periods of time and exposure to dust.
