**Northland Building Supplies **is seeking an experienced sales associate estimator who can work out of our office in Edmonton, AB.
We are a full service lumber, engineered wood retailer, and truss manufacturer. We service the general public in addition to contractors and professional builders. We're looking for someone with experience in lumber sales to help our lumber estimating department.
This is a full-time position and is not suitable for remote workers.

- **JOB DESCRIPTION**_
**Lumber & Building Materials (LBM) Sale and Estimator Associate**
The **LBM Sales and Estimator** is responsible for providing prompt and friendly service to customers (both contractor & homeowners), advising them on appropriate merchandise and related items. They must be familiar with lumber and building material products, pricing, local building codes, types of building permits issued, and to be able to prepare quotations for various building projects. The **LBM Sales and Estimator **primary responsibilities are to estimate lumber packages for quote request, and process regular orders for **LBM **products and maintain appropriate **LBM ** inventory levels.
**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Customer Service_
- Ensure customers are promptly greeted when they arrive at the reception area
- Determine customers' needs by asking open-ended questions
- Communicate product knowledge to the customer as appropriate
- Obtaining and analyzing tender project drawings and specifications
- Setting up and inputting estimates in sales software
- Help customers solve material and lumber problems and suggest appropriate material solutions
- Ensure that the quote request has the necessary material and paperwork to provide a complete estimate
- Ensure that the correct products were received from vendors and that paperwork is completed in a timely manner
- Use delivery schedule and update all delivery requests to ensure all deliveries/pickups are without conflict
- Ensure product is clearly tagged with customer contact information prior to shipping/delivery
- Ensure that special order policies and procedures are adhered to, pertaining to payments, invoicing and billing
- Perform other job-related duties as required, but not limited to purchasing and controlling inventory of certain stock items
- Resolve customer complaints
- Help with loading customer orders as needed, or when lumber yard is short-staffed
- Generating Sales_
- Prepare quotes for large building projects
- When filing orders, consider add-on sales when possible
- Develop and maintain sales call reference files and prospect lists
- Establish and adhere to a regular scheduled for calling on accounts
- Processing Transactions_
- Process special orders for non-stock or out of stock items
- Collect deposits for special orders from third-party suppliers
- Process special orders from third-party suppliers
- Develop and maintain delivery/pick up schedules for large orders
- Process in-person POS payments for charge accounts
- Process POS payments for lumber sales
- LBM Inventory Maintenance_
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels for **LBM** products stored in the lumber yard by regularly checking stock and ordering product as needed
- Assist with receiving and restocking **LBM **materials
- Regularly check inventory levels and notify management of any ongoing shortages or ordering challenges
- Regularly inspect lumber to minimize waste and proactively suggest uses for damaged products
- Product Knowledge_
- Be familiar with current yard inventory and surplus items
- Keep up to date on practical knowledge of building martials and lumber products, including their uses, advantages, and disadvantages
- Be familiar with and maintain up-to-date information on pricing
- Be familiar with local building codes and types of building permits issued
- Be familiar with prices, practices, and policies of the company's competitors
- Teamwork_
- Assist loading customer orders or unloading shipments in yard when lumber yard is short-staffed
- Assist with customer deliveries when regular drivers are busy
**Qualifications/Requirements**
- High School graduation or equivalent
- Fluent in English (spoken & written) with excellent listening, communication, and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with individuals within and outside the organization
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work efficiently with mínimal supervision
- Performing all estimating duties as required
- Knowledge of various lumber and building materials is required
- Friendly and helpful attitude toward customers is required
- Excellent communication skills are required
- Good mathematical skills are required
- Clean Class 5 abstract
