NEC Native Education College opened its doors in 1967 and became British Columbia's largest private
Indigenous College. NEC’s purpose is to contribute to an Indigenous, holistic experience that positions the
Indigenous learner to uphold their responsibility and obligations to their family, and Nation of origin as
autonomous Peoples. The NEC longhouse offers access to many resources and in-house supports that
include cultural and spiritual supports, funding, counselling, and career advising from a culturally authentic
lens. Reporting to the Dean of Student Services, NEC is seeking a F/T Cultural Coordinator to provide
student support during their learning journey at NEC.
Position Summary
Organize and co-lead Welcoming Ceremony for each term, and other regularly scheduled or
unscheduled cultural events at NEC, including confirming a traditional speaker and ensuring elder
participation.
Support the planning for graduation, Elder's Day and Winter Gathering and ensuring that cultural
protocols are in place.
Supervise cultural supports for staff and students.
Answer staff or student questions or concerns related to cultural knowledge.
Provide workshops or speaking engagements related to cultural knowledge, both internally and
externally
Coordinate various student or staff initiatives related to cultural knowledge.
Will also be expected to participate in professional development activities, attend regular Student
Services and NEC meetings and serve on collage committees that support the goals and objectives of
the college
Preferred Qualifications:
Any combination of education and work experience as follows will be considered:
Proficient in cultural protocols, practices, and diversity in First Nations communities.
Ability to communicate with tact and discretion concerning student issues, and the ability to organize
tasks and work well independently.
Ability to show initiative and meet deadlines.
Demonstrated superior communication skills (oral, written and presentation) for clear and tactful
relations with students, staff, other colleges/universities, external agencies, and the public.
Strong interpersonal, team building, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
**Terms**:
Appointment to this full-time Regular position with probationary period will require a formal criminal record
check, the details of which may preclude an offer of employment being finalized. Qualified Indigenous
applicants will be prioritized. This position is open to all genders of applicants.

Days of Work: Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30
**Salary**: $ 32.88/hr (as per Collective Agreement)
