**Career Advisor**
**Duties**
- Oversee Career Services course on Blackboard and facilitate workshops to students
- Develop and update career development resources for students
- Organize job fairs, hiring events, speed interview events, resume review sessions, external industry experts as guest speakers for workshops etc.
- Meet with students individually and/or in groups to discuss potential career pathways and other career related matters
- Support students in filling out ILAC’s Career Development Forms consistently and analyzing the forms and providing feedback to Director on trends
- Attend and support students at external networking events and job fairs
- Support Job Developer in sourcing part-time and full-time job opportunities for students
- Share management of and update Excel and Orbis database(s) and job board(s) with volunteer roles, and part time and full time opportunities, record requirements for students and progress through hiring process
- Review student resumes and match to vacancies on database and share resumes with employers or organize interviews
- Advise students on basic employment rights and/or refer to community organizations for enhanced advice
- Liaise with fellow Co-op and Career Services members to discuss student hiring matters, employer needs, match students to advertised roles, and share performance feedback of students
- Provide updates to Director on any student hardship matters or performance issues that require escalating due to risk of harm of relationship with employer or partner agency
- Support the training, setting of tasks, and supervision of external placement student(s) and student peer mentors within the department
- Support Co-op and Career services workshops, drop-in events, co-op assignment marking etc.
- Maintain a detailed record of student, employer/business, community organization interactions, and ensure students complete feedback surveys after attending workshops or individual meetings
- Write content for the department marketing brochures, Co-op and Career Services Blackboard and Canvas/Moodle course, and Co-op and Career Services section of the website, and ensure information is up to date
- Provide Marketing with Career Services content for campus newsletter, on campus screens, and events
- Provide regular updates to Director and Quality Assurance to ensure Ministry guidelines and service agreement guidelines are followed, discuss required policy changes, share industry updates etc.
- Ensure department policies are followed and that deadlines and expectations are met
- Liaise with internal departments (Student Services, Faculty, Academics, Marketing, Admissions/Recruitment) as needed
- Occasional travel to employer locations, networking events, job fairs etc. across the Greater Toronto Area
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director and ad-hoc basis
**Requirements**:
- 1 or more years’ experience in career counselling/advising/guidance with post-secondary students
- Completion of a Career Development Practitioner or Career Consultant post-grad certificate
- Experience in developing resources and facilitating workshops for young adults and adult learners
- Excellent communication, organizational, facilitation, presentation, and public speaking skills
- Multitasking experience in an environment with service users at different stages of their academic journey
- Experience in assessing employer and client needs to make an effective match
- Knowledge or experience of working with diverse job seekers (ie. international students)
- Previous work experience in managing and updating databases
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Canva etc.
- Flexible to work occasional evenings and weekend hours as needed
**Nice to have**:
- Previous work experience with newcomers, international students or knowledge of post-secondary education processes for international students and co-op programs
- Basic knowledge of immigration pathways (PR, PGWP)
- Knowledge of career pathways across the following fields: tourism, hospitality, healthcare, business, human resources, marketing, computer networking, and computer programming
- Knowledge of NOC Codes/TEER System
- Previous work or academic experience with an online Learning Management System (ie. Canvas, Blackboard, Schoology, Moodle etc
- Working with college database management programs and co-op software such as Orbis or Symplicity
- Completion of or enrolled in a post-secondary certificate, degree, or diploma program in a relevant field
