Career Advisor Tech/telecom

**Purpose**:
Under the Direction of the Manager, Industry Advising, the Industry Advisor assists current students & alumni, interested in careers in Telecommunications and/or Technology Management in gaining employment, by coaching students with regards to job search skills, self-marketing tools and developing job leads. The information is communicated to students and alumni in one-on-one coaching sessions, workshops, on the web, social media chats, in company information sessions and during events managed by the Centre for Career Design (CCD). Services include student and alumni industry advising, career coaching and editing of resumes and editing and creation of other written documentation to support job searches for students and alumni. The incumbent will be the first point of contact for current and potential recruiters in Telecommunications/Technology Management, on all aspects of the recruiting process for current students & alumni to become future employees in this industry, and to assist other staff in providing first-class exceptional service levels to recruiters. In addition to being the first point of contact for recruiters, the incumbent will also be the first point of contact for students interested in Telecommunications/Technology Management at the Schulich School of Business. In the role, the incumbent will also be expected to coordinate industry-specific job postings, assist with industry-specific events, research additional opportunities, assist with the review of resumes for collection in the School's online resume bank and contact companies, under direction from the Manager, Associate Directors, Director and Executive Director.

**Education**:
University Degree in business (preferably with a specialization in Finance, Marketing, Consulting/Strategic Management, Technology, Telecommunications, Operations or General Management from a recognized university), or four years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

**Skills**:
Knowledge of career opportunities in Technology and Telecommunications, as well as knowledge of relevant designations. Experience and knowledge in developing workshops, including conducting research and designing presentations. Close attention to detail and accuracy is essential. Advanced skills in Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and must be proficient and able to adapt to new and emerging multi-media platforms and programs as needed. Must be able to maintain online employer and student databases, job postings, interview scheduling and statistical reports in CRM platforms or other similar online recruiting software. Active listening, superior oral and written communication skills, excellent analytical skills, excellent attention to detail. Demonstrated relationship management and time management skills. High energy and enthusiasm, positive and empathic, able to provide outstanding, knowledgeable customer service to students/alumni and recruiters. Must have ability to handle high volumes of disparate work, demanding and/or disgruntled students and alumni, constant interruptions, conflicting priorities and irregular deadlines. Professionalism, tact, diplomacy and confidentiality must be maintained at all times in this variable work environment.
