We operate a range of charitable programs, including Meals on Wheels, the Community Integration Project, and the Family Respite Centre in Vancouver, with plans for a new Centre in the North Shore. Our dedicated staff and volunteers are essential to our success and the fulfillment of our mission.
The Family Respite Centre offers a great team atmosphere, home-like setting providing services to clients and their families who are seeking respite care in the community. Clients are short-stay in our 12 bed overnight unit or attending our Adult Day Program.
**Position Overview**:
The Respite Assistant is responsible to provide assistance to clients with activities of daily living and personal care. In collaboration with the Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator provides input to the development and evaluation of the therapeutic leisure and recreation program to meet specific client needs. Implements and participates in established activities of the therapeutic leisure and recreation program.
**Required Qualifications**:
- Completion of resident care aide/home support worker certificate program from a recognized college or completion of a therapeutic activity worker certificate program from a recognized college. Six month or longer program required.
- Two years recent experience working with a physically and/or mentally frail adult population.
- One year recent experience working as resident care aide/home support worker with personal care.
- Must be registered as a BC Care Aide & Community Worker.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Current Food Safe level 1 certificate.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check and recent tuberculosis screening required.
- Or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

- Salary Range: Grid 21 $27.92- $29.60 (April 1, 2024 rates)
- Permanent Part Time
- 0.56 FTE
- Positions covered by HEU Community Subsector Collective Agreement.

The Family Respite Centre is located in the Killarney area of Vancouver. Easy commute -bus stops in front of the building or there is free neighbourhood street parking.
