Recreation Program Assistant

Working within a client-centered model, the Program Assistant is responsible for meeting the needs a group of clients with cognitive impairment, including dementia, by creating and implementing engaging programs
- Create programs that are both creative and engaging for all levels of cognition and physical abilities
- Program Assistants are required to record/report on status of clients in an efficient and professional manner.
- May be required to participate in virtual programming. Proficient in all computer based programming with ability to create pre-recorded videos to engage clients both physically and cognitively.
- Case management skills considered an asset;
- _Ability to assess clients and complete any necessary screening and intakes of new clientele. _
- _Ability to perform data entry, make outbound calls to clients and caregivers and complete the intake process. _
- _Knowledge of CIMS, Inter-RAI CHA and GPA _
- Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience working with older adults with dementia or other cognitive impairments recommended
- A background in recreation, and/or experience working with older adults with cognitive impairments
- SSW, DSW, PSW or Recreation Therapist background, considered an asset
- Comprehension in the field of gerontology
- CPR/First Aid

- Great problem-solving abilities
- Conflict resolution: ability to remain calm and ability to resolve conflicts (de-escalate situations)
- Ability to build strong, professional relationships with clients and their families
- Passionate about enabling clients to maintain their independence in our community through a safe enriching environment, while promoting creativity and socialization
Pay: From $17.50 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
Schedule:
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
